About this deal

Kinetic Sand is a great calming down activity for my kids and they still love it (at 4 + 7), just as much as they loved it as toddlers. It’s one of my go-to indoor tuff tray ideas, especially in winter. This one is obviously super easy when it’s winter and you have snow outside. Playing outside in the snow if great, but if your little one is starting to get cold and wanting to come in, or you’ve been playing outside all morning and you have to get some housework done, but they just aren’t ready to finish playing, then this is the activity for them.

We have created these Harvest Festival Tuff Tray activities to be easy for you to set up and prepare. Each activity provides you with simple instructions on how to set up your Harvest Festival Tuff Tray. Ask the children to create an autumn scene using the items in the tuff tray, let them use the objects to make a picture, or draw a scene directly onto the tuff tray and ask them to place the objects in the correct places. For example, the brown leaves on the floor, the spiky conker cases on the trees. Halloween Tuff Tray Ideas A tuff tray works great as a pouring station. You can set up lots of different jugs, cups and measuring spoons and your toddler can practice their pouring skills. Make a pigsty using small world pigs, straw or hay and mud. Encourage the children to squelch the mixture together and using the opportunity to explore new vocabulary. To fix a warped Tuff Tray, simply place the tray in the sun-filled with water for a few hours. How to use a Tuff Tray

Fresh Ideas and Inspiration for education

You could encourage your kids to work together to complete these Harvest Festival Tuff Tray activities. When the play is finished, they can be swept off before being wiped down and dried, ready for play another day. Who are Tuff Trays for? Harvest Craft - Get crafty with your kids this Harvest Festival with this fun craft! Your kids will have a blast with this engaging hands-on activity. This resource includes a set of easy-to-follow instructions. Your kids can complete this craft independently in class or at home. EYFS tuff tray ideas at this stage of development don’t need to be structured as specific games or tasks, giving children the freedom to explore and build confidence using the tuff tray should be the central goal. This familiarity will help them to feel comfortable approaching more complex tuff tray games and activities as they grow older.

Use the tray for focused activities such as developing fine motor skills. Place cup cake tins in the tray for threading items to be placed into. Select a range of threading resources such as chunky beads, pasta, giant buttons. Provide colourful shoes laces, ribbons and string for the children to choose from. While on the topic of sandcastles, Summer tuff trays offer children the opportunity to enjoy the warmer months outside in the playground when everything is in bloom, use Summer as a theme for tuff spot ideas to help children to explore the seasonal changes that happen in summer and all the fun things they might do with their families. For babies, having the tray on the ground supports their gross motor skills, having them crawl around and sit in the tray. It is also much safer for climbing toddlers. Before you scroll past this one, thinking that water play is pretty basic. Pause a minute, as there are so many extra things you can do with water, to keep it new and interesting.

A simple and popular use for the tray in settings is to fill the tray with play balls. Children as young as 8 months love to sit in the Tuff Spot Tray amongst all the colourful balls. The balls will often end up all over the room but toddlers can help fill the tray again and often enjoy hiding objects for each other to find. Schematic Play Once your children have finished playing, the tray should be cleaned before storing indoors. Why use a Tuff Tray? The edges make it great for catching any spills and containing those paint-drenched sheets of paper! The easiest way to start is to look through your cupboards at home or in your setting and find what needs using up! Cereal and pasta (cooked or uncooked) can be a fantastic play resource for babies (as long as it is well supervised). Mixing different types of cereal and pasta allows babies to explore a range of textures with their hands. Cooked spaghetti can be used to hide objects for children to find. You could also add food colouring to the water while cooking your spaghetti to change the colour. Be careful to avoid pulses as these can be toxic if consumed when they are uncooked. Reflective Play There are so many games they can play with these things. It’s different each time. They bury the ‘treasure’ for each other to find, cook with the sand and other ‘ingredients’ with old pots, pans and muffin trays, build and decorate sandcastles, and they mix it with water and do little experiments.

These activities are a fun way for little ones to learn all about harvest and practise a range of skills. Are There Other Harvest Festival Activities Available? Julia Donaldson’s ‘The Gruffalo’ provides a lovely opportunity to teach children about nature, and we’re loving Charlotte’s approach with this autumn theme.
