About this deal

Anytime the Chainrasps are affected by Spectural Lure or Temporal Translocation, spells that let you return dead models you can return an additional D6 dead models. If you’re bringing 2 large squads of Chainrasps, which is certainly viable, this battalion makes them a huge pain in the ass. Execution Horde Chainrasp champions are known as Dreadwardens - the wardens of unrepentant souls. The candles they bear are like beacons to the spirits under their charge, casting a dread light that the Chainrasps believe will lead to their freedom. In fact, it is this eerie glow that helps bind the impenitent to eternal servitude. The Chainrasps may have thought death would be an escape from their terrible imprisonment, but truly, it was only the beginning. [1b] Wargear [ ] The Guardian of Souls is a wizard for Nighthaunt, drawing more Nighthaunt units into combat with the living. Slitter –Before piling in, nominate a model within 1″ of the bearer and roll a die. If it is higher than the unit’s wound characteristic then it is slain. Good for a guaranteed extra killed model, and might occasionally tap a Hero too. B+

Issue 18 / Paints Anvils of the Heldenhammer (Dryad Bark (Base, Brown) Leadbelcher (Base, Metallic Grey) Paint) I’d guess that they had the copy ready to publish, with photos, but were behind on WarCry2 production. Disclaimer: My opponent was recovering from a hospital visit a few weeks prior and this was the third game of the day in the withering heat*Warhammer Community put out a great piece on the design aesthetic and origins of the Nighthaunt army. A link is in the notes below, but the points that jumped out for me were: The most numerous of all the spirits that join Nighthaunt processions are the Chainrasp Hordes. These gheists are created from the spirits of the most vicious and irredeemable criminals to have lived in the Mortal Realms. [1a] They are armed with malignant weapons – swords, axes and spiked maces – and the kit includes options for a Dreadwarden These were the Stormcast Underworlds; Nightvault core warband, but, have “cycled out” and are now only sold without cards as an AoS Unit.

I won priority turn two and took the double, continuing my sweeping manoeuvre to completely clear the right hand side of any threats while solidifying my position in the middle. His Mega Boss was having the time of his life killing chain rasps in the middle, but the rest of the army was dying around him as Mannfred, the Harridans and the Spirit Hosts swept through his flanks. Turn 4 Mannfred charged an incidental unit, then in the combat phase teleported onto the left flank to take control of all three points as only a Warchanter was holding it, putting me firmly in the lead as my opponent was running out of units not tied up in combat to deal with Mannfred. The Takeaways This is a “A sprue” from an “ABB sprue” that was in the original Age of Sigmar boxed set and is now part of the Thunderstrike Brotherhood. First released as a foot character Harbinger with Malign Portents, we now have a mounted version of the Knight of Shrouds. The Nighthaunt book is pretty dry on Command traits. There aren’t a few different tables for each type of commander, it’s just one with 6. They’re pretty mediocre, so many will choose to run Lady Olynder as a General due to her special ability rather than getting a command trait, we’ll discuss what that does in her unit entry but it is pretty competitive. Finally, I’ve consolidated my battalions down to just two and a total of five drops – I found myself really glad to always start with initial priority, and while I managed to get away with 7 drops on the day, going forward I wanted to make sure I’m dictating the state of play more often. I’ve got a total of 4 two day tournaments to prep for over the next six months, so I’ll be working away on my other armies while continuing to refine this list and see if I think it has legs at a two day event going up against more stiff competition.

Warhammer Underworlds Warband. As can be expected the same story is true here, due to requiring they come with the warband, the point cost is inflated to a point that makes the Hero themselves worthless. If you can even get one at this point, as they were in the second edition of Warhammer Underworlds which has since gone out of print. Battleline We are a small team of Warhammer Enthusiasts and miniature collectors, hoping to support and further promote the hobby. Low. Nighthaunts have been through an interesting up and down. They used to do reasonably well, then faced a decline that they haven’t really recovered from. You’ll see the occasional list appear on tournaments but not as often as one would like. It suffers from early battletome syndrome and it’s just very hard for them to make up the lost ground of having inferior army traits to newer, fresher books. Nighthaunts vs. Legion of Grief Shrieking Blade –-1 to hit the bearer with melee weapons. Good protection as while your Heroes aren’t affected by rend you cant improve their save either, so you need to find other ways to protect them B+Lightshard of the Harvest Moon –Pop this once per game. Once you do every unit within 12″ can reroll failed hits. Crazy good with the right timing, but you need to manage the aura around the Guardian of Souls. B+ Numbers –Nighthaunts are a bit of a horde army, you can field large units with your 10 bravery and cheap units. Many of your units have the SUMMONABLE keyword which allows many powers and spells to heal and restore dead models.

Spirit Hosts quietly impressed, as when combined with ROTSH they were able to take up space and be a difficult unit to shift. They’ve traditionally underperformed for me in the past but they made their case for their ongoing inclusion in future lists. So I (and others) bought two of these magazines, and, converted two of the Glaivewraiths to be Reapers by swapping a normal skull on, sculpting a blindfold, and changing the glaive into a scythe.

New Black Coach

Mannfred was running wild after a slow start, giving the army a much needed threat that helped score bonus Monster points, give my opponent a headache with his teleport and go for the throat when needed with his ludicrously fast movement. Mephiston Red has been my go-to colour for the roses on the Myrmourn Banshee bases the Thorns of the Briar Queen and the (scenic) Glaivewraith Stalkers. Guardian of Souls (135) - Maul of Judgement - Artefacts: Lightshard of the Harvest Moon - Spells: Spectral Tether
