About this deal

One of the most interesting aspects of the KEEN Ranger PT is the ability to livestream. This is an often requested feature with wildlife cameras, giving you an immediate view of what is happening in front of your camera 24/7. Providing you have an internet connection, you can access a live stream in seconds (and even pan / tilt the camera view). Go PT Plus needs a SIM card for a network connection. You may refer to Choose Supported SIM card Carrier to find the right SIM card for your camera. It features a 4MP 1/3" CMOS Sensor which allows the camera to capture high definition videos at 2K resolution ( 2560 x 1440). The resolution of the livefeed does vary depending on the quality of the connection - a stronger signal means better quality.

The Reolink Keen is a 2K camera. It records video at a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (1440p) with a frame rate (FPS) of 15. The KEEN Ranger PT will operate indefinitely when the solar panel is connected. However, you can also install it without the solar panel if you want. The 6,000mAh battery will last for around 1-4 weeks, depending on how often it’s triggered. After that, you’ll have to take it down and charge it via USB.

Rich in Features & Easy to Use

As a small minus point, only the mounting strap has to be mentioned, since it deviates optically from the pattern and color. I'll discuss this further in a later point. Our PIR motion sensor is more sensitive to side-to-side movement than movement heading straight toward the camera. But for most people, they simply weren’t practical. They needed to be hardwired, and you needed a dedicated TV and VCR for monitoring and recording. Most importantly, you couldn’t monitor them remotely. At best, you’d come home to a grainy video of your house getting robbed. The detecting distance of PIR motion sensors is 9 meters, and the detecting angle is 120˚ horizontally. Motions out of this range can’t be detected.

It should be noted that not all networks are supported by the camera. In Germany, only the „D- network“ (Vodafone and Telekom) comes into question. They’re also commonly used by wildlife preserves and parks. But when you invest in a trail cam, you want to make sure your money is well spent. That’s why we wanted to look at a camera from KEEN, which is owned by Reolink, a highly-respected manufacturer. However, trail cams can also be used for simple observation. If you think there might be bears in your woods, how cool would it be to get a picture? The camera is camouflaged to minimise detection and it comes supplied with a strap so you can easily set it up on a tree or post at the desired spot. The camera body is also IP64 rated, meaning it is fully weatherproof. In our experience, the trigger speeds can vary depending on the size of the animal, and are slower than many high-end trail cameras - though still fast enough to detect reliably. Night recordings are illuminated using no-glow LEDs which are invisible to humans, minimising the risk of detection. It has no-glow LEDs with a flash range of 33ft. At night in low light conditions, the Keen, like many other cameras from well-known manufacturers, has problems with moving objects. This presents itself as blurring ("ghosting") and occurs especially when using the IR LEDs. To avoid this, the lightning of the monitored area can be improved by e. g. external spotlights. This camera is based on the Reolink Go PT Plus and the full product name is Keen Ranger PT. The name alone already reveals in which direction the rabbit is running: Trail camera.

It features an internal rechargeable battery and comes with a compatible solar panel to charge the camera while it deployed in the field - providing there is sufficient sunlight available. This is connected to the camera via a microUSB port on the camera. In general, a positive trend can be seen in terms of usage and charging when used with the solar panel. The solar panel is perfectly enough to power the camera and recharge the battery. In addition, the KEEN Ranger PT trail camera boasts 4MP super HD image quality to capture every detail vividly day and night.Another feature is supposed to be GPS. However, this feature was not yet implemented in the software due to my early version. A good quality trail camera has any number of applications. Most people use them for hunting. You can set them up on game trails, and get a sense for how and where the animals are moving. It is worth knowing that the Reolink Keen cannot be operated in the WLAN, but only in the mobile network. Thus, it needs its own SIM card. Of course, this affected data consumption when watching as well as power consumption, among other things. Before the release, I was provided with the new Reolink Keen camera for extensive testing over several weeks.

Unfortunately, the KEEN Ranger PT uses Micro USB rather that USB Type-C. It’s not that big of deal, but USB-C is always preferred.Based on its advanced 4G camera technology, Reolink launched the dedicated trail camera brand KEEN and its first game camera KEEN Ranger PT. Compared to traditional trail cameras, the KEEN one can pan and tilt with a 360°view. Users can control the camera to rotate horizontally and vertically via the phone app from afar. With the rotation feature, farmers, campers, hunters, or wildlife organizations can get a full picture of what is happening.
