About this deal

Tactics and Final Verdict on the Soulblight Gravelords Army Overview of the Soulblight Gravelords Army Nagash, Supreme Lord of the Undead demands total obedience from all of his deathless subjects. He enforces his despotic will through the tormented legions of Nighthaunt and the disciplined ranks of the Ossiarch Bonereapers .

A note here, the old Locus of Shyish rule is totally gone, each spell now has a bespoke ability that triggers on an unmodified 9+ to cast. Lore of the Vampires These ingenious engineers develop their craft even during battle, using their sorcerous skill to augment and refine their creations, protecting them from harm and granting them grim modifications. Battletome: Ossiarch Bonereapers Eventually an infiltration of Skaven denied him victory corrupting the Necroquake, but that was enough to awaken magic energies long asleep giving form to Endless Spells and other marvels. But how does a Soulblight Gravelord army play on a tabletop? First let’s go through the main rules for this army. But are they a good value? We’re going to break down each box by its components if bought separately.

Deathless Minions

If you want a super-reliable vampire to charge off into enemy lines, consider The Red Casket which is a nice and simple +3 to run rolls and to charge rolls for the bearer. There’s a lot to be said for just not failing those crucial low distance charges and this will do exactly that, whilst also making your medium to long range charges a lot more reliable. Anvegorii Dynasty This is a hard one to assess because as of this writing Slaanesh isn’t doing so hot. Slaanesh mortals even worse so. So whether you want this is going to hinge entirely on whether or not your interested in pursuing a Hedonites of Slaanesh Mortals army regardless of how well you’ll do on the table. Another solid set. For a new player I really like this box. First, the Heroes: The Boneshaper is a solid foundation to start from. Of the 3 generic Wizard Heroes I think the Soulmason is the strongest but the Boneshaper makes a decent follow up option.

Not all vampires are direct descendants from the two Mortarchs. Legend says that Belladamma Volga bargained with the undead godbeast Hrunspuul receiving from him her powers (and curse) reflecting the most sacred of the animal-spirits she venerated: the wolf. It is so that the Vyrkos Dynasty was born and why they hold so dear the wolf as their symbol. December 2021 – and sorry if that’s not 100% clear. All we have to go on right now is the few words the community team have put out. If you are more competitive, this army needs fine balancing to win matches. Hammers and anvils require proper screening and buffing to work fine so surgical piece removals, especially heroes may hinder your plans. Be careful of shooting and use your reserve and chaff units accordingly. Maintaining control of the objectives through an attrition war will be the key to win most games. So, it appears that the Lumineth Realm-Lords are really the winners of this, but everything is about equal. None of these lists are really BAD, except I don’t find any value in the Hedonites of Slaanesh. They don’t bring any of their really good-looking units to the table in these battleforces. But the other three all have a few charms. I likely won’t get any of them, but if you’re a collector, the Age of Sigmar Christmas Box is always a bonus.Endless Nightmare is also quite niche, as you have to return 6 or more slain models to a summonable unit during the turn. There are limited ways to make this happen, so you will have had to build for it to make this work. Next up: the Units The Soulblight Gravelords are where we start to question the choices games workshop have made. While we can see the synergies in the other boxes this one feels off. Skeletons and direwolves are both good horde options (and we might be able to help you paint both the skeletons and wolves). The knights offer some punch and the bats providing some strong harassment. Our main issue is that those units don’t work well with their choice of leader. Vengorian Lords are made to buff monster units, none of which are in the lists. Coming in at 990 points means you have plenty of scope to add in some monsters, but it feels like you’re being pushed to do that rather than given something that works efficiently out the box. Overwhelm your opponent with the explosive might of the Space Marines. This is a Battleforce that hits hard and fast thanks to a Storm Speeder and 29 Primaris Space Marines, including some fairly chunky Gravis-armoured battle brothers.

Now, just because I am biased towards anything that resembles a dinosaur, we’ll start with the Seraphon formerly known as the Lizardmen. All these miniatures are brand new sculpts, all released earlier in the year, much needed updates on 30 year old sculpts. Finally the Standard of the Ulfenwatch lets you roll a dice whenever your opponent spends a CP, on a 4+ you gain a CP. Given the pressure on your heroic actions, this can get you a good command economy going. Ivya roams the realms alone, hunting hulking behemoths with the help of her beloved woodsman’s axe and her loyal swarm of needle-fanged bats. Battletome: Soulblight Gravelords There’s obviously different build options for some units which may effect final points values, but for the sake of the value breakdown we’re just using the box contents as advertised by Games Workshop. Field the might of the Emperor’s chosen champions and overwhelm your opponent with sheer force. This box contains a Storm Speeder and 29 Primaris Space Marines, with a Captain, Bladeguard Veterans, and a ton of Intercessors – including regular, Heavy, and Assault varieties! Death Guard Battleforce: Plaguefester Warband

Holy moley this is a good deal. Almost everything here is absolutely worth taking and has competitive viability. The Vengorian Lord is one of the more powerful units in the book, granting a reduction in rend to enemy units it is in combat with and being a solid combat monster in its own right. Deadwalker Zombies are considered the choice battleline, with their nasty 6″ pile-in and ability to inflict mortals on 6s. The fact you’re given 2 boxes is extremely welcome. Finally the Blood Knights are a powerful hammer, fast, able to inflict a ton of damage and resilient in their own right. Killdakka, what a wonderful word to say out loud… Ork speech is poetry when you think about it. This box includes 20 Boyz, plus a Deffkilla Wartrike, your choice of Orky aeroplane, and a Big Mek. That’s lots of kill, and indeed dakka. The Christmas Battleforces are here, accompanied by a Rohan Stronghold in a box, and one very swish looking Praetor for The Horus Heresy.

Vyrkos Dynasty

The main event next week is Battleforces, massive boxes containing a wealth of units for a faction. They’re the ideal place to start a new army for the new year , or to expand an existing force. There are 10 boxes (count ‘em) split between Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar. First up, everyone’s favourite grim future gets six boxes.
