About this deal

Grace: I would choose this product over similar on the market as it is a trusted brand, an easy to use product and looks good and inobtrusive on the shelf. It is not much different to the original groegg but does look a bit nicer, however I would happily buy the original groegg if there was a significant difference in price.

A temperature reading appears on the LED display at the same time, automatically changing whenever there is a temperature shift in the room.

As well as the colour-changing feature, the Groegg2 also functions as a kids' nightlight. Its silicone dome emits a soft glow - although this might not be enough light to help you navigate midnight nappy changes - and there are three different light levels to choose from to provide a calming environment for your baby. You can also turn the light off completely if you want to. Key specs As mum to a now 14-month-old, I’ve been able to test the Groegg2 out in my own home, using it consistently for naps and during the night to monitor the temperature in my daughter’s room. I have also taken it with me for overnight stays at her grandparents’ house. While I think the LED display might actually be too bright considering it’s on show permanently when the device is plugged in, it’s clear that the brightness is more a safety measure than anything else. Despite the brightness of the LED display, it’s still an inconspicuous addition to her nursery, so isn’t something she takes much notice which means that it doesn’t negatively affect her sleep. Peace of mind at a glance - The Tommee Tippee Groegg2 digital room thermometer changes colour to indicate the temperature of the room so you can adapt your child’s bedding, clothing or room temperature accordingly. The soft silicone dome-shaped room thermometer features a permanently lit LED display for an accurate temperature reading of the room.

That might feel rather chilly to you, but overheating is linked to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) or cot death, so it’s better for the nursery to be on the cooler side.

The soft-glow light helps to create a calming sleep environment has 3 different brightness levels so you can adjust the intensity of the light to suit your little one. Babies can’t yet regulate their own body temperature, so you need to make sure that their room is neither too hot (to reduce the risk of SIDS) nor too cold for them to sleep safely and hopefully soundly. Where should I put the gro egg? Avoid placing your Groegg on top of or near a heater, in direct sunlight, or near an open window. Apart from that, the choice is yours! Fiona: I would love a piece of card or laminate to accompany this object for ideas as to how to dress your child for the temperatures it is demonstrating. Sometimes it did become very overwhelming with what the temperature of the room was and as a new parent there was concern as to how to deal with this temperature. Also a dimmable switch would be great so you could choose an option that was slightly darker but still showed the light. But is the popular and affordable Groegg2 as accurate as it needs to be to help put parents’ minds at ease? I’ve spent the last 12 months testing it out. Our verdict on the Groegg2

Our verdict on the Groegg2

Infant sleep is a minefield at the best of times, but one of the most important parts of a safe and comfortable night’s sleep for babies is their environment. We spoke to these real parent testers to get their review... How did this product make your life easier? Can the Groegg2 be powered by batteries? A: No, the Groegg2 needs to be connected to a power source using the included AC power adapter. It doesn’t have a battery option for power.

If a baby gets too warm, there's an increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), also known as cot death.More expensive products also have extra features such a light, to help with night feeds and nappy changes. Is the Groegg2 easy to use? A: Yes, the Groegg2 is designed to be user-friendly. It has a simple interface with clear temperature readings and intuitive controls. You can easily adjust the brightness of the night light and toggle between temperature modes. The Gro Egg might be a little more expensive than a basic room thermometer, but the extra features it has will give you peace of mind about your baby's health and sleep safety. Although your instincts might tell you to keep your baby’s nursery warmer than the rest of the house, the safe sleep charity The Lullaby Trust recommends that the ideal temperature should be between 16°C and 20°C. I’ve found the Groegg2 to be both accurate and consistent when measuring it against the readings of my home’s Hive thermostat system. While there’s usually a difference of 0.2 degrees between the two readings, the results are close enough for me to feel reassured of the Groegg2's accuracy.
