About this deal

Win: The device comes with an intuitive electronic program guide (EPG) that provides detailed information about upcoming TV shows, making it easy for you to plan and schedule your recordings. The EPG ensures you stay up to date with your favourite programs. In addition to the TV catchup apps, you also get a YouTube app (and a separate YouTube Kids app), which you can either use on its own, or connect it your YouTube account via your phone/PC. Then, you can use your smartphone to find videos or playlists to watch, and “cast” them from the phone to the TV screen. The T3-R is 4K and HDR – that’s to say, HDR10 and HLG – ready, although the catch is that there’s no 4K carried over the air on the Freeview platform. It will play 4K from YouTube and BBC iPlayer test streams, however. Audio compatibility covers Dolby Digital Plus and stereo.

So at this point, I would say that if your telly doesn’t have an HDMI port – you’re better off skipping the Manhattan T3 and getting a different device. Stay tuned to our blog as we're preparing to take an in-depth look at ITVX very soon, uncovering all its standout features and exclusive content. Here’s a detailed look at some of what consumers can expect from these upcoming models: Power and Performance When padding was set to Automatic, various issues could cause recordings to fail to start or end or to start or end late.

There is a limitation when it comes to recording. The T3-R can only record two channels at a time, while you watch a third. We’re told by the boffins at Manhattan that they’re looking into enabling a third channel to be time-shifted simultaneously, and that the feature could come via a firmware update. Fingers crossed. Meanwhile, Manhattan is promising more exciting news about the 4-series’ features and hardware in the coming weeks – so stay tuned for more. ITV will enable ITVX for the T3 and T3-R on Thursday 25th May, when it will be accessible from the Home Screen. For the app to work correctly, it's important your T3 or T3-Rhave updated to the latest releases. And while modern TVs will connect to Freeview directly, they’re not always easy to use. Sometimes the TV Guide is hidden behind a screen of apps and it can be impossible to find the channels you actually want to watch. And there’s no guarantee the manufacturer will keep updating them - so you might wake up one day and find the smart TV you bought is suddenly dumb.

Not necessarily - older televisions might still require an external box to access Freeview, particularly if you want to watch channels in HD. Audio visual quality is top-notch, having the ability to stream in 4K from YouTube is welcome, and the Freeview Play interface is on the right side of leading-edge. You shouldn’t buy it if… The latest networking libraries have been integrated for improved network performance and reliability (e.g. in a Carrier Grade NAT environment). You can also add shows to a special ‘Watchlist’, where all the catchup-shows you regularly watch – from different apps – will be waiting for you. While I wasn’t able to do an actual hands-on review of the new T4-series boxes just yet, Manhattan were kind enough to give us a few exclusive details about the upcoming boxes and some of their new features and hardware. As expected, SD channels are more compromised – but, again, what you see is what you’d have viewed live, so no complaints here. It would be nice to have some sort of on-box confirmation that the PVR was recording, however.

The remote is friendly and easy to use, though it might feel a bit too long for some. The button placement is logical, and you’ll remember where everything is within an hour or two of use. Well, no such problems with the T3-R – it’s blazingly fast, even when running full apps like BBC iPlayer. Flipping between channels is also quite fast, though it’s not instant – there’s still a delay of a second or two between each channel. In contrast, recording allows viewers to keep content for as long as they like, offering a sense of ownership that streaming services can’t match. When the T3-R made a Wi-Fi connection and there were multiple access points or a previous Wi-Fi access point had been reset and configured with the same SSID the system could reboot. Once you have everything connected, both Freeview and Freeview Play are free to watch, without any monthly subscriptions (though you would still need to pay the TV Licence in most cases). on two different multiplexes then you can watch any channel that's also on one of these two multiplexes

Following (normally temporary) EDID failure during the HDMI handshake the T3’s Audio Output would change to Auto. This primarily affected Audio Receivers and Soundbars. The twin-tuner system allows you to watch one channel while recording another, providing you with the freedom to manage your viewing schedule effectively. The device offers multiple connectivity options, including HDMI, Ethernet, and USB ports, making it simple to connect to your TV and other devices. When your T3•R is turned on, the LED on the front is blue. The correct input on your TV is not selected
