About this deal

The Septuagint is the translation of the Jewish Bible into the Greek dating from between 250 and 100 BC . The word is an abbreviation of interpretatio septuaginta virorum or: translation by seventy men. This refers to the legend that 70 translators working independently from each other on the same text came to a synonymous result. The Septuagint comprises the deuterocanonical scriptures, called "The Apocrypha" by some people.. Deuterocanonical books is a term used since the 16th century in the Catholic Church to describe certain books and passages of the Christian Old Testament that are not part of the Hebrew Bible. Despite Roman Catholic claims that these books were unanimously affirmed by the church fathers and the tradition of the church, many significant figures throughout church history have rejected them, including a number whom Rome would count as Saints and Popes. Thus, Protestants did not “remove” the books but rather sided with an equally ancient Christian tradition that also matches the Canon entrusted to the Jews. Early Christian tradition, from the late second century on, identifies the author of this gospel and of the Acts of the Apostles as Luke, a Syrian from Antioch, who is mentioned in the New Testament in Col 4:14, Phlm 24 and 2 Tm 4:11. The prologue of the gospel makes it clear that Luke is not part of the first generation of Christian disciples but is himself dependent upon the traditions he received from those who were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word ( Lk 1:2).
