About this deal

Except that application isn't just for the extra bits and pieces at all because you’ll find another version of Metal Gear in there as well as Metal Gear: Snake's Revenge. Today then, I'm honing in on the pitfalls present on PS5, Series X, Switch and PC, which certainly give us enough issues to talk on. Texture filtering is problematic too, with PS5 running at a much higher anisotropic filtering setting than Series X. Yes, the quality of the originals was always going to be there, but surely the quality of the package as a remaster should have more weight in the verdict. Still the 4K mod proves a proper, official 4K option that could and should have been included by Konami.

The score seems very high considering how critical the text is of the lack of effort put into this package. For example, you'll find the bonus master books and screenplays built into the game apps themselves, but then the graphic novels are siloed off in the launcher purely for bonus features. Remarkably the older HD Collection from 2011 produces better visuals in MGS2 and 3 than the Master Collection versions.Love how the two first Metal Gear games barely get a mention despite the fact Metal Gear 2 is considered one of the best games of all time. Honestly I'm just really happy to have a really good selection of MGS games all in one place available on the latest console. Booting up the PC version of MGS2 and MGS3 in the Master Collection provides perhaps the biggest shock of all.

If you select UK English or a European language from the front-end, the Master Collection defaults to the European version of MGS1, capped at 25fps to suit the 50Hz PAL standard - not ideal. It's fine for jumping in and out of one specific title, but you've got to play a guessing game to locate the extra content. The reason being that the aforementioned game retcons/reveals so much about a previously established character that you will have a fundamentally different experience depending on which option you choose. Geep I would assume that if the US and JP versions are separate downloads for European players, that would resolve the 50Hz problem, same as you being able to select between PAL and NTSC for the PS Plus Premium games.Their 20-minute cutscenes are a welcome invitation; their stealth gameplay and Big Boss rank attempts a fun challenge. Here's the video version of this article, which details the many misses of the MGS Master Collection. There's still nothing else quite like a Metal Gear Solid game out there, and dipping your toes into any one of them is enough to consider ignoring your current-gen backlog for a few playthroughs all over again.

Check out the comparison shots a little higher in this piece to see the difference - it's quite stark. You're going to see more of that going forward honestly prefer it that way, as it let's you manage console space better. As such, many of the quirks of the original PS1 game are preserved: a base resolution of 320x240, and PS1's signature affine texture warping that causes texture maps to 'wobble' as you move the camera. However right now there are side-effects to using this 4K mod, such as issues with the HUD displayed at higher resolutions. The only downside perhaps is that the Master Collection doesn't tie everything together with a single front-end.Infiltrate enemy fortresses all over the globe, complete your missions with stealth and experience the thrilling cinematic story of the METAL GEAR series. Overall, across both PS2-era games, PS5 does ends up with the best image quality by a solid margin, especially in MGS3 where the camera is fully controllable to reveal the filtering advantage. Each game has a slick and responsive front-end menu built on the Unity engine that's crammed with extras.
