About this deal

The charm and glory of Scotland come alive between two friends on a historical journey. Sam and Graham's book Clanlands is such a treasure to read whilst being both equally informative and hysterical. There were so many laugh out loud moments that fans of the show Outlander and general lovers of this wee country will really enjoy as these buddies tour famous and influential places in the Scottish Highlands, showcasing the waring Clans, whiskey tastings, breathtaking views and eccentric Scotsman and Scotswomen they come across. Live in conversation, the intrepid Scotsman will share their latest epic adventure across The Land of the Long White Cloud to celebrate the highly anticipated publication of their new book, Clanlands in New Zealand. Exploring the country that Graham calls home, and that Sam has longed to visit, these sturdy friends will recount tales of immersing themselves in all that New Zealand has to offer: stunning landscapes, rich history, world-class food and drink, and – much to Graham's mounting anxiety and Sam's deep satisfaction – famously adrenaline-fuelled activities! a b "Baillie". And shall we not forget the thinly veiled homophobic comments, alongside how they don’t feel “manly” and comparing the kilt to a dress, despite being oh so proudly Scottish?

Toss in a hilariously ribald foreword from Diana Gabaldon herself, along with cameos by other Outlander cast favourites, and you end up with one entertaining read fans will not want to miss! I will buy anything related to Outlander and this is a profound book, along the lines of the Ewan McGregor/Charlie Boorman, Billy Connolly or Bill Bryson books.

Motto: Bydand [Scots, 'Abiding', 'Steadfast', an adjectival use of the Middle Scots present participle of bide; [167] or from Latin, 'Remaining' [166]]. This motto refers to the chief's descent from the Morrisons of North Uist and Harris, rather than from the Morrisons of Lewis. The Morrisons of North Uist and Harris are not traditionally thought to be related to the Morrisons of Lewis. Lord Lyon, King of Arms, granted the petition for Chief of the Name and Arms of Buchanan in August 2018. Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Grahamfollows Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish as they travel around Scotland in an attempt to get to know their birthplace. According to Starz, Men in Kiltswill be “a celebration of Scottish history and culture as Heughan and McTavish take viewers along on their adventures, discovering the rich, complex heritage of their native country, meeting various local artisans and experts, and experiencing genuine moments of awe and fascination as the duo share their travels with the audience rather than simply guiding them.” MEN IN KILTSRELEASE DATE: WHEN DOES MEN IN KILTSSTART?Crest: A broken terrestrial globe surmounted by a rainbow issuing out of a cloud at each end all Proper. Crest: On a chapeau gules furred ermine a hand holding up a skene in pale argent, hilted and pommelled Or. [142]

I have known Sam for a while now. I love him as a dear friend. I admire his work ethic, his passion for charity work, climbing, his enthusiasm, and his ability at lifting heavy things, but the key thing you have to understand about Sam is that he is a nine-year-old masquerading in adult clothes. I have no doubt whatsoever that if I hard agreed to climb into a kayak with him he would have done his very bets to tip me out of the kayak. Probably more than once. He wouldn't have been able to help himself, He would have seen it as his duty." (207) -Graham McTavish Crest: A dexter hand holding up a ducal cap (Proper), tufted on the top with a rose gules, within two laurel branches in orle (also Proper). [66]

Parts of this book were quite funny as Heughan and McTavish constantly poke fun at each other. I was amused at the beginning chapter called "Taken for a Ride" when Sam Heughan changes a quote from J.R.R.Tolkien by saying, "It's dangerous business, Graham, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to." -Sam Heughan on behalf of J.R.R.Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings. a b "Elphinstone". Retrieved 22 August 2008. Clanlands may surprise readers, however, as it is more than just a traditional tale of two old chums hitting the road together for the hell of it. The amount of historical information and the level of detail provided throughout is impressive. Heughan and McTavish share what they learned through their own studies as well as their trip together, including such key moments in Scottish history as the Massacre of Glencoe, epic feuds among the clans, and, of course, the infamous Battle of Culloden.

Both the crest and motto echo those from the chief of Clan Campbell. The MacTavishes had been considered a part of Clan Campbell until 1997 when "Chief of the Clan MacTavish" was recognised by the Lord Lyon. The motto is a response to the Campbell chief's Ne obliviscaris ('Do not forget'). [280] Forget Jamie and Claire, it’s Sam and Graham that have the real chemistry. These two were clearly having the time of their lives galavanting about the countryside and taking the piss out of each other. When reading the last chapter "The Journey Ahead" I was also amused when I read the iconic quote from Monty Python's The Meaning of Life which says, "Try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations." That film is hilarious.
