Another thing I also loved about this book was the incorporation of the journal prompts because it felt like I had the opportunity to look back upon my life, my choices, my thoughts and my feelings and then put them on paper so that I can get some kind of satisfaction and healing. Aster realizes that Ellie wrote the letters and text messages as Paul; she slaps him and storms out. At the end of the day, I would give it 5 stars based on the themes, the vulnerability, the gentleness and the overall reading experience, but I believe that, from an objective point of view and in terms of the writing and the structure, it deserves 3 stars. it has taken me a lot of extremely dark times to get here but i feel incredibly ready to tell you these chapters of my story.I think that, along with using this book primarily to reflect on her experiences, is why she doesn't go as deep or descriptive as others in their memoirs. The more I paid attention to her songs, the more I wanted to know her story; finding out she wrote a memoir was the perfect way to do it without relying on gossip sites or social media and letting them dictate what I learned about her. i have listened to her since 2017 and i’ve even saw her live a few years ago, though i wouldn’t say i’m a fan of her in the way i’m following her moves and i watch her interviews.

When I hear the word "memoir," I anticipate a narrative-driven account of a person's life, and The Half of It is far from that. A human like everyone else who chose to follow her passion for music and connect with different souls. While I wish beyond adequate description that I had access to the kind of support she had (both financially and via the catharsis of having such a platform) through my own similar crisis, I do not co-sign the “this is the trade off for fame” garbage that public FEMALE figures are especially accustomed to hearing.i think “the half of it” has such important truths, and i think so many people could connect with the things said and discussed in this book. the wave finally broke, crashing over and flooding everything in my life, and i was drowning without any sign of shore. Some people have mentioned in their reviews that they don't think she has delved deep enough into everything she's gone through, and although it's true, I don't think she has to.

In The Half of It, Madison pulls back the curtain to show the behind-the-scenes of her journey, from reckoning with mass hate online and the time her private pictures were leaked, to battling suicidal thoughts while making her highly acclaimed debut album, Life Support, and her recovery since then. The only descriptive story I could actually picture was one of the very last ones where she is shooting the final scene for her "Reckless" music video. the topics were repetitive, the same paragraphs about internet bullies, her feeling suicidal and about how people shouldn’t be bullies. Netflix's "The Half of It" Star Leah Lewis Explains Why Ellie Chu's Story Is Vital to the Coming-of-Age Canon" ". There are a few events that are described in the book that seemed to stretch throughout, so it's not exactly a memoir, but a retelling of those events, how she felt during, how it affected her life etc.In April 2019, it was announced Leah Lewis, Alexxis Lemire, Daniel Diemer, Becky Ann Baker, Catherine Curtin, Wolfgang Novogratz, and Enrique Murciano had joined the cast of the film, with Alice Wu directing from a screenplay she wrote.

I had a soft spot for her as an artist already, and now that I know more about her and her goals, I want her to succeed in every single one. I'd sacrifice true happiness if it meant avoiding true sadness"I'm not going to trauma-dump on you, but as someone who has been through terrible depressive episodes, some of Madison's lines felt straight out of my brain when I was going through them.the thought of killing myself was so normal to me at that point that i had forgotten it wasn’t something everyone pondered on a daily basis. I am so proud of Madison for using the large platform that she has to speak up about these conditions and help create safe places for mental health awareness altogether. A lot of people fail to understand that even though singers are famous for their songs or actors are famous for their skills does not change them from one of us.
