About this deal

Eric clearly lives the advice he so expertly provides throughout this book, and I am really looking forward to implementing his advice throughout my own. In a nutshell, he encourages people to set alarms to remind yourself of the primary stewardship in view for the upcoming chunk of time - i. Even if you don’t know how to shoot, provided you were not blindfolded, at least if you had something to aim for, over time, you would get closer to it.

I would get to the end and realize that not only was I hanging on the back of the train, not feeling in control, but I had gotten on the wrong train and ended up in the wrong destination. Then — and this is critical — Patrick laid out a timeline for meeting those goals and consequences for not meeting them.

Really resonated with me and I’m excited to see how my 4 (an extra one for dancing) alarms will transform my life.

I have no family and no health goals because of having no attachments, so 2/3rd of the book does not apply to me. In his Best Leader persona, Patrick decided to incorporate another topic I’d coached him about — the art of having difficult conversations. The Three Alarms is a practical method for closing the gap between who you are and who you’re capable of being on the work, health, and home fronts. The author does offer some interesting tips, but mostly they're just regurgitating what they've learned from other sources.

He has been named "CEO of the Year" at the 2019 Business Excellence Forum, one of the "Top 30 Entrepreneurs in the UK", 35 and under, by Startups Magazine, and among "Britain's Most Disruptive Entrepreneurs" by The Telegraph. If your health is compromised, I guarantee you the first thing you are going to think about is your relationships.

I found that if I started writing and acknowledging the feeling, suddenly, 5 minutes became 10 to 20 minutes. Patrick thought, “If I were to start every day being greeted by the 70-year old version of me — to show me the effect of all my poor health decisions on my body — I wouldn’t make those decisions. Lots of good straightforward tips and a very readable style, with plenty of (engaging) personal anecdotes. According to Abraham Maslow, the psychologist best known for his hierarchy of needs framework, only 2% of people reach their full potential in life. It is amazing how we have this ability to step into being a superhero version of ourselves when we are kids, but somehow, we lose that along the way.
