However, Ilford Imaging does produce two very inexpensive cameras, one of which is the Ilfocolor Rapid Retro Single Use Camera. This cheap, disposable camera is loaded with the only color negative film ever produced under the “Ilford” name. The film is rated at ISO 400, and with a fixed focus 31mm f/11 lens and 1/125s shutter speed, the camera (like all disposables) is best used in good light, though it does feature a decent quality flash with a 15-second recycle time. Chemicals should be handled where there is adequate ventilation and always avoid surfaces where food is kept/prepared. It is well worth taking a few minutes to read our Health and Safety section which gives advice and guidance on the safe use and disposal of chemicals. Unwind the film out of the grooves of the spiral and remove any excess water by carefully running squeegee tongs or a clean piece of chamois cloth down the length of the film. (Take care as any grit caught up here will scratch the whole film). With a 47.3MP full-frame sensor and a stabilised 28mm f/1.7 lens, the Leica Q2 Monochrom delivers fantastic monochrome images. Pour the ILFOSTOP stop bath solution into the tank. Agitate by turning the tank upside down twice. After 10 seconds, pour it out. The time in the stop bath is not critical but it must be at least 10 seconds. As far as light leaks are concerned, this camera has been through a lot and still hasn’t developed a leak. I’ve dropped it plenty of times, tossed it loosely in my bag and put groceries on top of it, got it scratched up, let it sit in the sun for days, and nothing. The best way to store them is in filing sheets which take six or seven strips of six negatives, so try to cut them up in this way. (You may be able to drop a blank shot or bad exposure to do this.) This is me, stoked on this Harman Reusable camera at the same time the horror of the looming Pandemic began to sink in.

There is strong distortion closer to the edges of the lens. The edges also lose sharpness and exhibits some vignetting. That just means you have to place the subject in the center of the frame, and use the vignetting to draw attention inwards. The film developer, stop bath and fixer we recommend for beginners are all liquid concentrate chemistry and as such are easy to prepare. However, we still advise wearing protective glasses and suitable protective clothing. The key difference between them is that HYPAM is compatible with a hardener while RAPID FIXER is not. As our films are all sufficiently robust, hardeners are typically not required but some people still prefer to use them. Mixing photo chemicals Disposable cameras are a ton of fun, but they’re expensive and extremely wasteful. This camera has exactly the same look and feel, but with the ability to change film and try something new. It’s fantastic for both people who know a lot about photography, and those who know nothing at all. I have no problem giving it to strangers to take my cheesy vacation photo, because it’s not worth anything and the photo will inevitably turn out.Developers come in powder concentrate and liquid concentrate form. For beginners, the ILFORD SIMPLICTY Photo Chemicals are a great choice as they are pre-measured but if you want to process more than just a couple of films we recommend a liquid concentrate developers such as ILFOTEC DD-X. Note: Liquid chemicals are easier to prepare and use.

If you’re a pixel peeper, the Harman Reusable Camera doesn’t have good image quality. But that’s actually my girlfriend’s favorite features about this camera. What makes the Ilfocolor Rapid Retro stand out is its single-element lens combined with its surprisingly nice color film. The lens has pronounced vignetting and declining sharpness as you move away from the center — lending photos that distinct “retro” appeal — while the film is quite punchy and saturated, leaning toward warm hues and very pleasant contrast.
