There is currently a battery-drain bug with the Google Assistant integration for which Sonos is working on a fix, but in the meantime it suggests turning the speaker fully off after use, turning off Assistant or switching to Alexa. That’s not necessarily a bad thing when you consider how the Roam might be used. There’s nothing worse than coarse hi-hats cutting through the chatter at a party when the speaker is turned up too loud. A clear high-end would be even better, but sometimes we can understand playing things a bit safe. That said, if you are determined to add some extra protection, long-time Sonos-collaborator Flexson has just launched a case for the Roam and we're sure more must be on the way. Given its nomadic ambitions, the Roam cannot rely on wi-fi alone for its music streaming, so Bluetooth and AirPlay 2 are also on board. Connecting via Bluetooth is as simple as holding down the Roam’s power button and waiting for the Sonos to pop up in your available devices. We’ve been pretty careful while testing ours, as we are with most things, but the Roam has fared well on its travels so far.You can, but only via wi-fi and the Sonos app; this can’t be done using only Bluetooth. That isn’t the end of the world if you want to do so outside, but it does make things a bit more difficult enjoying a proper stereo mix out in the wilderness. Easily connect compatible Sonos speakers in different rooms over Wi-Fi to create a home sound system that plays music in any or every room. For existing Sonos users after a portable speaker, the Roam is a no-brainer. For others what you get is far more than a simple Bluetooth speaker for much the same price as top competitors. For many it might be the only personal music speaker you need.

Sonos’s new smaller and cheaper Roam portable speaker is one that won’t end up relegated to a drawer collecting dust as it sounds great at home too. Roam lasts for up to ten hours of continuous play time from a single charge. It also goes into sleep mode to save power when not in use, and wakes up in less than a second at the press of a button.Because the Sonos Roam has only one tweeter and one woofer, playing in mono, that makes it pretty versatile in terms of orientation. As we’ve said, if you aren’t already invested in the Sonos multi-room family then you might be better off looking elsewhere for your portable wireless speaker needs. Yes. The Roam charges either via USB-C, using the optional Sonos Wireless Charger, or with any Qi wireless charger – and during charging, the Sonos Roam can play music. Just like the Move can.
