Sierra: What inspired you to write the Treehouse series? Andy: There are many things that lead you to be inspired to write a book. But one of them in the case of the Treehouse series was a book that I grew up with as a child, which was The Magic Faraway Tree [by Enid Blyton] about three children who discover a magic tree that they climb up and it's full of all sorts of odd and amusing and sometimes frightening characters. At the beginning of the book, there is a detailed illustration of the different areas of the treehouse. Andy writes the words for their book, and Terry does the illustrations. At the start of the second paragraph, Mr Big Nose will call Andy and Terry to tell them the deadline of their next book as pointed out in The 39-storey Treehouse.

The 13-Storey Treehouse is a 2011 book [1] written by author Andy Griffiths and illustrated by Terry Denton, [2] and a stage play based on the book. [3] The story follows Andy and Terry, who are living in a 13-storey treehouse, struggling to finish their book on time among many distractions and their friend Jill, who lives in a house full of animals and often visits them. According to the book, the 13-storey treehouse has "a bowling alley, a see-through swimming pool, a tank full of man-eating sharks, a secret underground laboratory, a vegetable vaporizer and a marshmallow machine that shoots marshmallows into your mouths when it sees that you are hungry".The story continues with the expanded treehouse with new things to find and explore. There is a trampoline, a chocolate waterfall, a dinosaur petting zoo, and so much more. This time, they have the added benefit of a time machine to help them get their book finished in time. These stories have been made into a play as well. The play has the treehouse at 52 stories high. It happens to be Andy’s birthday, but Terry forgot. Another character has disappeared, and Terry’s partner, Jill, has fallen into a deep sleep. Andy and Terry must set off on an adventure beyond the Treehouse. They face some very challenging obstacles along the way. There is a hungry caterpillar and a kingdom of angry vegetables. There is even a voyage of ninja snails that has been going on for 100 years. And at the top, there's a different land each time … It might be The Land of Do-As-You-Please or The Land of Spells … Some of it was pleasurable, some of it was scary, but you never knew what was going to happen next. This book is about two kid-authors who spend the entire book procrastinating and then (spoilers) at the last minute pull through and finish their project by WRITING ABOUT HOW THEY PROCRASTINATED. And then their books is published and everyone loves it. So I guess the moral of the story is "Hey Kids! You can not do the shit you're supposed to do and you'll still be fine!". I recently discovered the treehouse series, through a review book and via my son, Mr 8’s new interest in this series. I found the most recent book in this series, The 104- Storey Treehouse, utterly hilarious. I was keen to see how this extremely popular series originated. I selected The 13-Storey Treehouse to read for Book Bingo 2018, covering the square ,‘a funny book’. Although I wasn’t rolling around the room in fits of laughter, I did enjoy a snigger or two, courtesy of both the writing and the illustrations of the creative duo of this series. It all started when I was in the extraterrestrial observation center. I was looking through the telescope trying to spot something that might give me an idea of what to write about in our next book when I came across the strangest-looking alien I’d ever seen! When Andy and Terry began to write their book, a giant gorilla started shaking the tree yelling, “BANANA!” Then a chauffer arrives, informing Terry has won the Barky the Barking Dog drawing competition and gets to meet Barky. But squished by the giant gorilla.As the duo loses hope. 13 flying cats, lead by Silky, began fighting the gorilla. Which was successful. The canaries then lift the gorilla away.However, Andy is still upset with how he and Terry haven't got their book done, but Terry suggests that they write what happened that day. They write the events up and with the help of Jill in a Santa-like sleigh, get their book to Mr Big Nose for it to be published.
