About this deal

the overall sound of the guitar when not buzzing is more than acceptable, if this guitar was manufactured to a decent finish including set up, it would be fine. C40s have a low-midrange sound, not much definition on high frets on the nylon strings, as expected. He started playing bass and guitar in 1998, and played the local scene throughout his teen years before life got in the way. Yamaha have opted to include the pricier wood on this budget model, and it makes a big difference to the looks and playability.

An alternative to the C40 Mk II would be our CG122 Classical Guitar - it's the same size as the C40 Mk II, but crucially it has a solid tonewood top. This hugely improves the resonance (and therefore the warmth and richness) of the guitar's sound compared to a laminate top as the C40 Mk II has (where - to keep an affordable price - the top is actually made up of many layers of wood strips and glues which work against the natural resonance of the guitar). In turn, because it sounds so good, beginners often enjoy playing for longer at a time - helping them to progress. We were also impressed by the finish on the fret edges – there were no sharp edges, burrs, or any sign of fret sprout, all things that regularly occur on guitars at this price point, but Yamaha’s QA has been extremely effective in this area. Playability is even more important than sound quality because it will take a beginner at least a year to learn how to exploit a higher-end guitar’s tone. The Yamaha C40 features a glossy body finish in a natural colour, giving it a stunning and elegant appearance. The gloss finish not only enhances the guitar's aesthetics but also adds a layer of protection, ensuring that your guitar stays in great condition for years to come. The natural colour showcases the beautiful wood grain of the spruce top and meranti body, giving the guitar a timeless and classic look. Versatile and reliable string selection The C40 is the guitar that thousands of students around the world have learned to play on over many years. It’s hard to argue with its success. Yamaha C40 technical specifications

The inside of the Yamaha C40 reveals where the top is joined together, bracing, a small hole, and dirt (this is a second-hand guitar). The CX40 is the electro version of the Yamaha C40 classical guitar which has outstanding value for money and a combination of exceptional playability and superb tone. It’s a small detail, but adding the extra four dots would be more helpful for beginners. There are also no guitar strap buttons, as the C40 is marketed at classical guitar students who only play in a seated position. The Yamaha C40II is the successor to the discontinued C40. Almost every single thing about the C40 is inherited by the C40II, with a slight difference in the tonewood and hardware used. The C40II is a more durable iteration and a perfect companion to carry around, whether it is for traveling, camping, or out-of-state visits. The Yamaha C40 comes pre-strung with nylon strings, perfect for achieving that warm and mellow classical guitar sound. Nylon strings are not only gentle on your fingers, making them ideal for beginners, but they also produce a rich and expressive tone that is suitable for a wide range of musical genres. Setting the action high gives the manufacturer a greater margin for error against imperfections in the fretboard. If the action is set too low, it can cause buzzing (where the strings rattle against the frets). And, since the vast, vast majority of guitars made are non-left-hand models (and left-hand models tend to be more expensive than their non-left-hand equivalents), learning to play a standard non-left-hand guitar opens up more possibilities for the future.Credit is provided by a panel of lenders with whom we have a commercial relationship (so we cannot provide independent advice). Thank you for your interest in our C40 Mk II Classical Guitar. The C40 Mk II is a fantastic instrument and perfect for beginners of classical guitar guitar playing (for instance, traditional Spanish guitar music). (For those with smaller arms, or for classical guitarists looking for something more compact, our CS40 Mk II model is a 3/4 size version of the C40 Mk II.) Both CG104A's to my dismay display exactly the same fretbuzz on A and D, as the C40s im reviewing here - and are being returned.

This is because a guitarist's hands are both `dominant' when playing guitar; a player who has learnt on a non-left-hand model will be able to play regardless of whether they're left or right handed. Truss rods are becoming more common in other beginner nylon string models. They provide more strength against the effects of heat and humidity and allows the action to be slightly adjusted. However, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers.
