Thank you so much to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest thoughts. Joe Lynch did when his young son, Will, spotted his wife’s car in traffic, he followed, intrigued as she turned into a hotel car park. Just one impulsive decision and BAM, Joe’s life will never be the same. Not for him, his family or their friends either. So.........Meet Joseph Lynch. He's super tall, has a beautiful wife, an inquisitive young son he adores, a comfortable profession as a part time schoolteacher, AND is happy and content with life. He's also rather meek, mild-mannered, considerate of others and unbelievably too forgiving, but a likable guy nonetheless who always, always plays by the rules....until he doesn't....as you will see.

Lies: The First Eight Chapters by T.M. Logan | Goodreads

In fairness to the author I’ll first say that I am definitely an outlier on this book. Many others have read and enjoyed it, however for me it was very mediocre. Kate has been friends with 3 other women since college. Now that most of them are busy with careers and family life, it's difficult for them to find the time to hang out with each other. For the first time in years though they are going on a vacation together and this time they are bringing their husbands and kids with them. Staying at a luxurious villa in the South of France sure sounds like a fun time, right? Well, not so much for Kate as she suspects her husband is having an affair with one of her 3 friends. Yikes. Looks like she will have to put on her detective hat to figure out which one is sleeping with him. Joe and William follow Mel into the garage. And then things become stranger. The garage is attached to a hotel, and Mel is nowhere in sight. Following her path inside, Joe and William finally spot her talking to their friend Ben. But something about the conversation seems off… Why are they in a hotel? And why do both Ben and Mel look so upset? Joe knows that he has brought his son into a moment he shouldn’t have. Logan was wounded for the second time during the Battle of Riddells' Shop on June 13, 1864. He was appointed a temporary brigadier general on December 1, but it was not confirmed by the Confederate Congress, and reverted to a colonel. [5] However, during that short time Logan was the youngest general officer in the Confederate Army. [2] In early 1865 Logan served with Hampton during the Carolinas Campaign, and was promoted to brigadier general on February 15. [7] He served in Petersburg as well as fighting in the Battle of Bentonville from March 19–21. Logan surrendered along with the rest of Hampton's forces on April 9, and was paroled on May 1 from Greensboro, North Carolina. [8] Postbellum career [ edit ] Logan after the Civil War This would have driven me crazy and it was doing the same to Kate since she opted not to confront Sean. The vacation devolves into suspicion and intense scrutiny of every move her friends make, especially when interacting with Sean as she tries to figure out the who. I could identify with Kate’s paranoia and it gets even more complicated by her daughter’s odd behavior where she’s clearly weighed down by something. Everything takes on more meaning and suspicion shifts to all of the friends at some point. That little girl highlights a problem with this group though...that the parents don't seem to have control of their children and have no idea what their children are up to. The entire group is pretty messed up, no wonder so many "things" happen to them. While the parents are dealing badly with what is going on between them, the teenagers have their own problems that may outweigh those of the parents. Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and T.M. Logan for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

of ancient Scottish descent. [1] He was the son of George William Logan, a local judge, and Anna D'Oyley Glover; [2] a sister was the painter Lillie Logan. [3] His great-great grandfather was Christian Thomassen Muldrup, His Danish Majesty's Consul for Scotland and the North of England, born 1721 and married to Honoria Bray. Logan received his education at South Carolina College, located in Columbia. He graduated in 1860, standing first in his class. [4] Civil War service [ edit ]Wow. This one grabbed me. It’s a straightforward psychological thriller, no clever devices, but that doesn’t mean it’s dull or boring by any stretch. Joe sees his wife pulling into a hotel car park and follows her in. The story builds and there appear to be a whole series of lies. So many secrets and Kate has them, too. She has wronged, intentionally or knowingly, all three of her friends at one point or another. Any of them would have a reason to hurt Kate if they decided to do so. And it's beginning to look like someone might be willing to kill to keep the affair a secret. Too many things are going wrong, too many people, including the husbands and children, are acting strange. Just what is going on?

With Kate it’s her sixteen year old daughter Lucy transitioning into adulthood, whilst Izzy is the single one of the group - there’s a nice blend of characters. This psychological thriller had an intense start and definitely pulled me in right away. Joseph Lynch is innocently driving home when his son spots his wife's car on the road. He decides to follow her at his son's request to "surprise mommy". Little did he know that based on that one spontaneous decision he was unwittingly in for a life altering surprise. As you can tell, there are a mix of ages with the kids and they manage to get into a bit of trouble all on their own. Throw in all the secrets with the adults and things get explosive at times.OH MY GOODNESS! This was a delicious rainy day read and I was completely captivated from beginning to end. Each chapter made my head spin as T.M. Logan just kept taking me deeper and deeper into a mystery that kept playing with my head. The less you know, the more enjoyable your read will be.So strap on the seatbelt and prepare yourself for a very bumpy ride. Eicher, John H., and David J. Eicher, Civil War High Commands. Stanford: Stanford University Press, 2001. ISBN 978-0-8047-3641-1. The Vacation was a slow burn, yet electrifying thriller that has all of the devilishly good elements I look for in a book! So what the reader is left with from that initial opening is having to wade through all the lies upon lies that pile up for the rest of the book. I read this one as a buddy read with Amanda over @ Devouring Books and we were both engaged as it got going but somewhere in the middle this one started to fizzle out a bit. So while I hate to say it yet again I think this is another title that just went on a bit too long in the middle focusing on one big lie and had it moved forward a bit faster it would have maintained my attention a lot better. I enjoyed the adorable child in this book who had a ‘part’ in LIFE WAS NEVER THE SAME AGAIN for his family when one night the child spotted “mummy’s car”....

THE CATCH, about a father convinced his daughter is about to marry a man with terrible secrets, has also been made into a TV drama for Channel 5 starring Jason Watkins, Poppy Gilbert, Aneurin Barnard and Cathy Belton (screened Jan-Feb 2023, available on My5). One of them is working against her, willing to sacrifice years of friendship to destroy her family. But which one? As Kate closes in on the truth in the stifling Mediterranean heat, she realises too late that the stakes are far higher than she ever imagined . . . The world of technology and social media can be a dangerous place and is a great setting for the biggest LIES of all in T. M. Logan's work of mysterious domestic unrest. Really thought I had it all figured out early on, but NOPE....there's more here than meets the eye!

Joe Lynch thought he had a nice, comfortable life. He's happily married to his beautiful wife and soul mate, Mel. Their young son, William, is a happy and healthy little boy. His family is the most important thing in the world to him. He thinks he has the perfect life.
