a b Peter Ong (6 January 1979). "Southeast Asia Marts Hot For 'Fever' ". Billboard. 91 (1): 63. ISSN 0006-2510 . Retrieved 6 June 2022– via Google Books. Collectors often become interested in records that have gone out of print, and the prices for these no longer available titles can get quite high, depending on the artist and title. In these cases, collectors are usually paying high prices simply to hear the music. Record companies do pay attention to such market trends, and today, it’s quite common to see newly-pressed reissues of albums for sale that haven’t been available on the market in decades. Acetate: A metal, lacquer-coated disc that's produced on specialized equipment, often on the fly, for a demonstration recording of a master tape. On other occasions, a record may be issued only as a promotional item. Such albums may be live recordings, made for radio broadcast, or perhaps compilation albums, again intended to stimulate airplay. These “promo-only” releases are usually sought after by collectors, though the interest in them will be directly related to the interest in the artist. A promo-only Rolling Stones record, for example, will attract far more interest from collectors than one by Andy Williams. Finding a copy of any record that is more than 20 years old in such condition is quite difficult, and the value of a record can vary widely depending on its condition. In the case of many records from the late 1950s and early 1960s, finding worn and nearly-unplayable copies of a particular record might be relatively easy, while finding one in mint condition may be nearly impossible.

Shellac: A record made from a brittle wax between the 1890s and 1950s, often for a disc that plays at 78 rpm. 34. Miles Davis, "Kind of Blue" (Tie) Music doesn't get better than "Kind of Blue."

As a rule, collectors tend to favor original pressings, so for a given title, the most desirable label variation would be whichever one was in use on the day the record was originally released for sale to the public. There are exceptions to this, however. The red Capitol label mentioned above was commonly used in the early 1970s for a number of titles, but was never intended to be used for records by the Beatles. A few copies of the band’s Revolver and Yesterday and Today albums were accidentally issued with that label, and despite not being “original” issues, they do sell for quite a lot of money on the collector’s market. People have tended to take better care of their records in recent decades, so it’s a lot easier to find a nice copy of a 1980s album by Bruce Springsteen than it is to find a near mint 1960s album by the Rolling Stones, for example. This super-duper rare doo-wop platter attracted mainstream attention in 2016 when it was featured on the reality TV show " Pawn Stars."

West Germany - The Year in Review - Bellaphon". Billboard. 8 December 1979. p.G-10 . Retrieved 6 June 2022– via Google Books. Record changers, which were phonographs that were capable of playing up to a dozen records in sequence, were popular in the 1960s and 1970s and were particularly prone to adding scratches and abrasions to a record’s playing surface. Many covers were poorly stored, leading to ring wear or splits in the covers. Furthermore, owners often wrote their names or other information on the record’s cover or label. Condition matters a lot.Schulman, Leif (20 January 1979). "Sweden Pushes Local Product" (PDF). Billboard. p.106 . Retrieved 31 July 2019. Lords of Salem" wasn't Rob Zombie's only turn as a director of a Hollywood feature film. Since the release of "House of 100 Corpses" in 2013, Zombie has been the man behind the camera for 10 films.

Autographed records that are personalized, such as “To Jane, best wishes…” tend to sell for less money than those that simply have the artist’s signature on it. When it comes to musical groups and autographs, albums that are autographed by the entire group will sell for substantially higher prices than those with the signatures of some, but not all, members. This is one of the factors that pretty much has no exceptions; a record with a picture sleeve is always more valuable than the same record without one. Aphex Twin owns something many of the top-selling music artists in the world don't. His 2014 album "Syro" won a Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album. Newton-John’s cause of death hasn’t been confirmed, but a source told TMZ at the time of her death that she died of metastatic breast cancer. “After a 30-year cancer journey, she lost her battle to metastatic breast cancer,” the insider said. Newton-John was first diagnosed with breast cancer in August 1992 when she was 43 years old.“I draw strength from the millions of women who have faced this challenge successfully,” she said in a statement at the time. “This has been detected early because I’ve had regular examinations, so I encourage other women to do the same.” One factor that can significantly affect a vinyl record’s value is the availability of reissues. In the 1950s through the mid-1970s, record companies kept close tabs on whether an album was selling well or poorly. Poor selling albums were usually removed from the catalog and existing copies were sold at a discount. Starting in the 1980s, record companies took a different approach, and reduced the prices of slow-selling records, keeping them in print but offering them for sale at a lower price point.Kent, David (1993). Hot Space," a rare Queen record, was Queen's 10th album and one of their transitional works. It marked a turning point for the legendary band, branching into disco, funk, rhythm and blues, pop and dance music.

Why We Love Vinyl

In August 2018, Polydor reissued the vinyl album to celebrate its original release in 1978. Released on 180g vinyl and mastered in half speed, it was the first time since its original release that it had used the original RSO record label in the artwork. No information was provided on who or where the record was half speed mastered. You would think a musician named Prince would have been self-glossed. Not the case. Prince's birth name was Prince Rogers Nelson, and the Minneapolis native changed the face of music over his lifetime.
