About this deal

We also promise to treat all your information with care and never pass it on to other companies for marketing purposes. Incredible concentration and complexity of aroma and flavour come through decades of ageing in the casks held at the Graham’s Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia. This is an extraordinarily complex wine with a remarkable array of aromas and flavours, from wonderful fig and raisin, to rich dark chocolate and woody spices. This is caused by the addition of distilled grape spirits (such as brandy) to fortify the wine and halt fermentation before all the sugar is converted to alcohol. Traditionally, the wine is passed ""port to port"" -- the host will pour a glass for the person seated at their right, and then pass the bottle or decanter to the left (to port); this practice is repeated around the circle.

Currently, Graham’s is the only British Port company that is run independently under one family's control. Graham’s winemaking team still adds the grape spirit known as aguardente (commonly known as brandy) is added to disrupt the fermentation of grape juice. If the port becomes forestalled at some point, it is considered poor form to ask for the decanter directly. Available by the bottle or case, your wine gift will be individually tailored with a personal message, tasting notes and vintage description. Though it accounts for around one percent of production, vintage port is the flagship wine of all Portugal. In the unlikely event that you're not happy with your purchase, for whatever reason, then please do get in touch so that we can make amends. This may affect factors including the product style and allergen information, and we would advise that you always check the label and not solely rely on the information presented here. One of our responsibilities is to ensure we do not sell age-restricted products online to people who are under the minimum legal age.

As you pour this wine into your glass, you will immediately notice its deep amber color and sweet, intense aromas of dried fruit, nuts, and toffee.

During the 17th century, a couple of wine merchants noticed that the people in the Lamego monastery in the Douro Valley added grape spirit in the initial stages of fermentation to make the wines sweet and authentic. The aromas are very complex with a powerful fragrance that expresses its age, and on the palate an array of flavours, from delicate fruit and raisins, to toasted toffee and chocolate, lead to a long and hugely satisfying aftertaste. Graham’s 40 Year Old Tawny shows a golden amber colour, with a pale green tinge at the rim, denoting great age. Today, Graham's is one of the most respected port wine producers in the world, known for exceptional quality and unique taste.
