Recently, the oil has been used to reduce skin inflammation and flaking seen in psoriasis. The active coumarins present in the oil inhibit the synthesis of new DNA in skin cells, which reduces the rate of cell proliferation, (continuous production of new skin cell). These help to promote skin healing in chronic conditions like psoriasis [6]. A 2012 study showed that extracts obtained from Psoralea corylifolia seeds showed almost 76% activity in the treatment of psoriasis, when compared to the control group.[7]

Results of the study showed that after 12 weeks of bakuchiol facial application twice a day, participants experienced significant improvement in lines and wrinkles, as well as skin elasticity, firmness and overall reducing in photo-damage. The positive results were comparable to those of retinol facial application. 2. Boosts Skin Elasticity and Firmness According to research, it may improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation thanks to the effect it has on collagen and blood vessel production. 7 It’s important to point out that this study was done on only 13 people, so more research is needed to fully understand how effective bakuchiol is in treating acne and how it compares with retinoids, which are commonly recommended to treat mild to moderate acne.
