About this deal

Jacqueline has won the prestigious Smarties Prize and the Children's Book Award for DOUBLE ACT, which was also highly commended for the Carnegie Medal. That didn't mean she didn't love him any more, but making the changeling child might have helped her to break the apparent hold that he had over her. Violet has always been in the shadow of her mesmerizing, controlling brother Will — by turns delightful and terrifying. When their grandmother spitefully reveals that Will is adopted, his self-esteem collapses and his behaviour becomes even more disturbing.

He has an unpredictable behaviour, some moments he’s incredibly patient while other times he won’t even bother holding a conversation, but it’s consistent throughout the book that he enjoys torturing and manipulating Violet into his twisted games - admitting that ‘they’re all for [his] delight. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Will is also a bit like a mini-Loki, if Loki were a teenager, and human, and his father was a policeman, instead of a God. Meanwhile, Violet befriends the new cool girl at school who she enjoys hanging out with, to Violet life seems better with her new friend Jasmine around until Violet feels she has been used and betrayed by her in the middle of a game with her and Will.

At eleven I seem to remember having a number of friends and I think I wanted Violet to also have important friendships. The plot is basic, but nice to read a book aimed at teens that isn't fantasy, magic, wizards, werewolf based.

Violet has an obsession with fairies created by her favourite author Casper Dreams, struggles to make friends and is emotionally abused by her brother—who just happens to be adopted and uses that as his excuse for his behaviour. She is always away in her own world, filled with fairies designed by her favorite author, Casper Dream. Jacqueline Wilson tackles tough themes but I can’t help thinking children aren’t the intended audience for Midnight and it could be too kiddish for young adults. I love looking at old stuff I wrote as a kid, now I want to go to my mums house and dig out my diaries and things! I am a natural blabbermouth and through the years I have found the written word to be a more potent outlet to drive home my point (than talking at people? I rated this two stars, but maybe I should give it five, I just remember feeling this book so much, even if I don't remember it too well. He has produced over sixty of his own titles, including much-loved favourites Ketchup on Your Cornflakes and Shark in the Park. Despite adoring Will, she even once refused to spend a day with him and instead, went to Jasmine's house. Alongside this, she has an obsession with the fairies in the books written by her favourite author, Casper Dreams—this obsession leads her to create rag-dolls of the fairies to hang in her room. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. She stays the same throughout, not sticking up for herself and no motivation in the story that she is in. Violet retreats into fantasies based on the fairy characters created by her absolute favourite author, Casper Dream. Why she cared so much confused me at times; this book is about sibling abuse and some of the things Will did made me feel actually quite sick. Aimed at older readers, this novel deals with adult themes of birth, sexuality, teen pregnancy, gang-culture, abuse and post-natal depression, but all in Wilson's usual credible, accessible style. When she argues with a new friend, she destroys her dolls and runs away, trying to track down the author of the imaginary world she yearns to hide within.
