About this deal

Furthermore, the addition of the carry handle means that moving the mower from one end of the garden to the other is effortless. Also the power system is completely electric so it produces zero emissions and works extremely quietly. Which is quieter? Well there’s not much between them but I would say that the WORX is slightly quieter due to the “Mute technology” that WORX claim makes their mower barely audible from 10 metres. Not only are you getting a precision cut with this mower but you’ll also notice that it features six cutting height positions so you’re free to get your lawn looking exactly how you want it – if the WORX WG743E.1 is anything, it’s versatile.

One of the most notable things about the WORX WG743E.1 is the generous grass collection box which holds up to 45 litres. This again does not necessarily put it ahead of competitors but it’s good that WORX have taken advantage of what is clearly the most effective cutting system in the market.

There are six settings that range from 2cm to 8cm, but what is most interesting is that this adjustment can be made with a single easy to adjust lever – nothing makes a product more appealing than ease-of-use. Cutting DiameterThe WORX WG734E.1 is certainly a lawn mower that is a cut above the rest, thanks to the innovative addition of intellicut technology, this product makes light work of even the most dense lawns. All of this without compromising on power, and in this modern life, who’s really got time for anything but? You’re getting unrivalled power as a result of the 2 x 4.0Ah batteries so you can feel confident that this tool will meet and exceed your expectations. If all of that wasn’t enough, the fast charger that is included in the box means that you won’t be waiting around to get to work – it’ll charge in just 60 minutes! In comparison, the Flymo Mighti-Mo 300 takes the same 2 hours to charge as the WG779E.2 but the the WORX will last longer with the ability to cut a lawn up to 350 m². This is surprising as the Flymo Mighti-Mo 300 weighs 3 kg less than the WG779E.2. The mower is light and easy to turn on its side for cleaning. I just use a stiff hand brush to sweep leftover grass from the blade area, base and wheels before I put it away. You wouldn’t expect a modern lawn mower to be without a mulching mode and the WORX WG734E.1 doesn’t disappoint. It features a handy mulching mode that can be easily activated leaving you with perfect mulch for your garden every time.

My first cut was on long, messy grass. There are patches of couch grass in my lawn and a few straggly dandelions so I thought I might have left it a bit long between cuts. You can change the cutting height using the lever on the front of the mower and on my first cut I left it high as I thought it could benefit from a pre-trim. In retrospect it didn't need it and would have handled the longer patches of grass with ease (and has since). As we have mentioned, the WORX WG743E.1 features a hefty cutting width of 40cm which makes it ideal for larger lawned areas, but will make just as easy work of a smaller lawn. When we test mowers we like to try all of the features. I have tested the full range of cutting heights, and used it both with and without the mulching plug. I have tested on both wet and dry grass, and used it for frequent trimming versus that first mow of spring when the lawn is a little unruly. The height settings are really easy to change using a lever on the side. I find it best to start off on a higher setting as a precut, then work down a few notches to my desired height. This prevents the mower from jamming and cutting out, which it will do if the grass is too long or wet. This is very rare though and often switching up to turbo mode gives it enough oomph to cope with light overgrowth.

FAQs

Electric mowers tend to be very easy to use and the Worx WG779E is no different, with its simple two-button start. There is a 'key' you have to place and press before pressing the lever for operation. Families will appreciate this safety feature and it makes it near impossible to start the mower unintentionally. Want your garden to look like a freshly cut football field? A rear roller produces a striped effect – gently flattening the grass for a well-manicured result. Cordless means poor battery life, right? It isn’t as compact as some cordless mowers and doesn’t fold as neatly as the fantastically foldable Flymo EasiStore 340R Li. However, you can still relax the bolts on the top half of the handle and fold it over the lower half for storage. At roughly 12kg in weight, it’s also an easy mower to heft around: just grab the chunky orange handle in the centre and you’re good to go. The grass box on the WORX WG779E.2 is very easy to remove by simply lifting the flap and unhooking. The grass clippings empty from the box with no obstructions. This is a hard topped collection box with a carry handle at the top. The Worx 40V cordless can be used in Turbo or Eco Modes. Eco helps the battery last longer, although after four or five uses I still had a third of a battery left, according to the indicator.
