At first they both disliked each other so much but the more they spent time together, the more they tried to know each other and they tried to understand their choices and their behaviour. I loved how their friendship developed from a trainer-trainee relationship to friends and then to lovers. They both always helped each other no matter what situation is and Max gave Ti a home. A home she never knew she needed. Everything about them is comfort ❤️‍🩹

But then, they realize that during the toast, Ahzeen drugged them with Chryxalis, a rare drug that cuts off a Wielder from their magic. Max, Sammerin, and Nura are taken into captivity. Max is a retired soldier who reminded me SO MUCH of Akiva from Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor (and that’s high praise, coming from me, as he’s my ULTIMATE book boyfriend). I’ve definitely got a thing for those broody warrior boys haha! 💙 His training montage scenes with her were *chef’s kiss*! I do love trainer-trainee plots, and this book provided that in spades. (I also recommend Poison Study by Maria V Snyder if you love that plot line, too.) i love carissa broadbents writing. although serpant and wings of night has a place in my heart this book was really good and easy to fall into. i find myself struggling between a 3.5 or 4 so im giving it a 3.75 but disclaimer: just bc i lowered my rating doesn’t mean i didn’t enjoy it as much, i just had some issues with it and ultimately didn’t vibe as much with it as i would have wanted to This was a surprisingly wonderful read. Tisaanah is an excellent main character. The majority of the book is from her point of view. She is strong willed(not in a bratty way like you see in many novels). She is brave, smart, and resourceful. She has to fight every step of the way to get what she wants and she never gives up. In a wild surge of fury, Tisaanah lashes out at Esmaris with her magic, and accidentally kills him.

Max is so respectful & loving, & even though he would NEVER do it, there’s just something inside me that would 100% thank him & beg for more if he happened to run me over with a car [*cue feminism leaving my body*] 🫡 The weapon is a sentient being named Reshayethat occupies Tisaanah’s mind. Reshaye shows Tisaanah visions from its past and its time with Max. During this time, Tisaanah sees a vision of what truly happened in Sarlazai – that Nura used her mind magic to force Max’s mental walls down and let Reshaye free, who unleashed destruction across the city. She also sees the truth of what happened to Max’s family – that Reshaye, in a possessive rage, murdered them using Max’s body. The ending. No that was a lot and I was so scared for Max and Tisaanah what they had to do 😭 they still have wars to fight and so much more and the upcoming plot is going to be very interesting. I really hope so because Carissa left it such a perfect cliffhanger ending 👀 Incredibly well written...the prose is descriptive and intelligent without being dense. As Max says, beautiful and functional :)
