About this deal

Martinez does an excellent job with the nuances of this relationship, and that made From the Embers a very bingeable read. But carved into my soul for the rest of my days would be the earth-shattering realization that the woman in my arms wasn’t my wife. After all, you can’t fathom how anyone else could adequately understand the misery you’re going through.

Eason and Bree, “friends” who barely tolerated each other, both lost their partners on a house fire, they were the only survivors. I think the best part of this book was their relationship development and the way that they formed a family together after the devastating deaths of their spouses. First and foremost, it’s about finding love after loss, sparking a fire from the embers and building the life you truly want. They have to reluctantly work together to keep their makeshift family healthy and take care of the small children and each other even though they weren't super close before. This book will take you on a heart wrenching, painful, tearful, and joyous emotional journey that will have you rooting for these characters and their much deserved happily ever after. Eason is probably my favorite part of the book, but Bree gives as good as she gets, and the two together are something really special. He was unhappy but trying to be the best father and husband and she was pretty happy even though their spouses were awful people, until they died there were no clues about their sordid shit. It’s a heavy book that gets lighter as it goes on, and I loved the uplifting, heartfelt vibes towards the end. if the twist in regretting you felt unsatisfying, i think you might prefer the execution of that same twist in this book.

The writing is *so* absorbing that I went through the entire rainbow of emotions reading this novel and just when I thought I knew what was happening, a plot twist that wasn’t even on my radar took things in a very different direction. Yet as they both start to heal, and romance flickers to life, secrets from the past threaten to ignite. The story follows Eason and Bree, two people who have been a part of each other’s lives for years, though neither one would really consider themselves friends.Their spouses were disgusting pieces of shit, but her ex husband was an better actor, they had an good marriage (he was cheating but he faked it well) while the hero was struggling and divorce was almost being discussed, they were no longer having sex and he was sleeping on the couch. Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys movies that can surprise her with a twist, charcuterie boards, and her mildly neurotic golden retriever. Eason, who is barely conscious, tries to save his wife but mistakenly rescues Bree, his best friend's wife. Being with Eason has changed Bree, she sees him in a whole new light, the way he cares for his daughter and her children, how he freely gives love and support to them all. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

Safe; no virgins, both celibate after the deaths of their spouses, hero has one child and heroine has two, no sex scenes with om/ow, the om/ow drama is just the usual widow(er) stuff, missing the deceased partner, etc. All I will say is that this book will capture your full attention and have your emotions all over the place. Some stories make you their prisoner and hold you in such a tight grip that as much as you're begging to be set free, you really don't want to let go. Un jour où ils sont tous les 4 ensembles, sans les enfants, il y a une explosion dans la maison et elle prends feu. Too many twists, too much drama, and a troupe I don't love, but it's Aly Martinez so you know I had to read it. Aly Martinez é a prova que dá pra se escrever uma história rica, envolvente e cheia de reviravoltas em poucas páginas! Their relationship, though strained in the beginning, becomes over time something precious that heals and binds them together.
