About this deal

Assuming the gang lives in the continental U.S., why is the Mystery Machine here? It would have been far easier for them to get a rental car. Indeed, this episode is the very first instance of the Mystery Machine appearing where it would make no sense. It's unknown if the other equipment inside the Mystery Machine besides the direction finder was actually being used in junction with it or just there for show (to make the gang look more professional). Presumably it was the former.

Lt. Tomoro says he works for the Hawaii police department, which is an actual law enforcement agency. Officially known as the Hawaii county police department, it is based in the city of Hilo. Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!: The Complete Series (limited edition) DVD set released by Warner Home Video on November 9, 2010. As Fred is announcing to Daphne and Velma that they've arrived on Beach Boulevard, his teeth turn flesh coloured as his mouth half closes. When the scene shifts from Fred holding it, to the entire gang, he's now holding two sheets of empty paper. When the Witch Doctor first appears, his skull staff has grass on it. But then for the rest of the episode, there is no grass on the staff. One in-universe explanation could be that the first time the Witch Doctor was seen it was actually Mr. Simms's henchman. Mr. Simms's could've removed the grass once he took over. When Scooby is dognapped, Shaggy yells "Scooby" several times. He could blow the dog's cover that way.

Scooby-Doo! 13 Spooky Tales Around the World DVD set released by Warner Home Video on May 15, 2012. The asset that came off least was the very limited and somewhat forgettable character of the giant statue Mano Tiki Tia. The Witch Doctor however is an excellent main ghost, if not quite as eerie as the Headless Spectre or as iconic as The Creeper, and makes quite a scare in his first entrance. The story is on the daft side, but also lots of fun, easy to follow with some nice diverting clues and a great red herring involving a suspicious old man and the Hawaiian setting is both exotic and eerie. As Shaggy is telling Fred about his encounter with the Ghost of Geronimo, the additional equipment in the Mystery Machine is missing. Disguises: Shaggy, Velma, and Scooby as Tarzan, Jane and Cheeta, respectively; Scooby as hula dancer. Also, in this shot of the mystery machine approaching the cemetery, Shaggy's silhouette can be seen despite the fact that it is only Fred and the girls driving there. The viewers briefly see through Scooby's eyes while he wears Velma's glasses. Considering how strong Velma's prescription must be to accommodate her terrible eyesight, it would be impossible for Scooby to see perfectly through her glasses. Also, dogs are partially colorblind so Scooby would not see all the colors humans do.

Likewise, Milissa was burned at the stake; in reality, burning at the stake was a common execution method in Europe, but was never used to execute accused witches in North America. In North America, most accused witches were instead hanged, although Salem witch trials convict, Giles Corey, was crushed with stones.

The Witch Doctor makes a cameo at the end of the live-action film Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster.

The Witch Doctor disguise looks just like the Witch Doctor from the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! episode A Tiki Scare is No Fair. This book and the episode are also both even set in Hawaii. Fred says, "Good boy, Scooby, you found and freed them all". Daphne found the dogs first, but she doesn't get any credit. The gang travel to Hawaii, where they discover a scientist and his secret project - turning volcano soil into valuable gems. Soon, a witch doctor starts haunting the volcano, so the gang must put their vacation on hold to protect the gems. This is also the first time that the gang decide to investigate a case that initially has nothing to do with the supernatural. Eventually, the dognapping case does become supernatural with the appearance of the Indian witch doctor and the ghost of Geronimo. It is unknown how Simms and his henchman made their skin look dark while disguised as the Witch Doctor. However, it's possible that they were wearing gloves and feet-like shoes.
