About this deal

Lucian and Sloane, both minor characters in the first two books, finally receive the spotlight they so deserve. We now learn why Lucian is the way he is, how Sloan plays into it from Day 1, and how the two fit into one another’s lives. Watching Waylay feel safe and loved for the first time in her life was really emotional. I was totally invested in their relationship and enjoyed how they got to know one another, were both hopeful for a brighter future, and dealt with Tina’s betrayal. They were victims and survivors, and I admired their strength, perseverance, and positive attitude. Naomi selflessly sold her wedding dress and used it to by her niece clothes, sold her home so she could buy a car, and agreed to clean and organize his grandmother’s house in exchange for rent. She was hardworking, resilient, and a go-getter, earning my total respect. I just felt like Tina's grand thing could of been something else. Which is why after all these points the book didn't give me that 5 star feeling. It feels bad saying this but the writing in this book isn't anything special like people say it is. One thing I loved about Things We Never Got Over is that Knox was 43 years old. As a fortysomething myself, I especially notice that the majority, if not all, of the books I read in the romance genre, focus on characters in their 20s or early 30s. Kudos to Score for making her leading man a bit older and therefore more relatable to people in my age category. He was Jekyll and Hyde, gaslighting and mistreating her over and over and yet she still fell in love. Then breaks her heart and leaves...just like he said he would, and has the nerve to sulk! Out of concern Nash asked his brother as to why he broke things off, and Knox replied with, “Problem...with you helping yourself to my leftovers? Nah. Better she didn’t go to waste.”

Things We Hide From the Light is the Things We Never Got Over sequel and Lucy Score’s second installment in what is to be a three-book series. While the first book, Things We Never Got Over, told the story of Knox Morgan and Naomi Witt, Things We Hide From the Light focuses on Knox’s brother, police chief Nash Morgan, and insurance agent Lina Solavita. Just like the above sentence from this book, this isn't what readers like me too wanted. This was a strange book where the characters behaved in bizarre ways. The main characters, Naomi and Knox, are both above 35 years. Yet, they are acting like irritating kindergarten kids who are obsessed with actions similar to Disney characters in some parts of the book and like toxic, emotionally manipulating, and stalking characters in the other parts. Sloane Walton is a spitfire determined to carry on her father’s quest for justice. She’ll do that just as soon as she figures out exactly what the man she hates did to—or for—her family. Bonded by an old, dark secret from the past and the dislike they now share for each other, Sloane trusts Lucian about as far as she can throw his designer-suited body. You’re the one who has to live your life. Don’t apologize to other people for the decisions you make for yourself.” Sloane Walton is not Lucian’s biggest fan, but their chemistry is a pesky complication that refuses to vanish. One unforgettable one-night stand later, the two can no longer deny their connection. Everything is going perfectly until questions about their future arise. Here we have runaway homeless bride appears in small town and conveniently gets everything handed to her by hero man child Knox & is told she is the best thing that ever happened to him ,even though she constantly gets herself in to trouble and needs things.

The writing- incredible. Flawless. I just loved the banter between Knox and Naomi so much. The dialogue was spot on with this one. But I did know that sometimes a bad seed was just a bad seed. No matter what field it was planted in, no matter how it was tended, some just came up rotten.”To say I had massive expectations is an understatement. I jumped into this knowing I was getting into a romcom. I was waiting for people we meet on vacation feels or Wall of Winnipeg swoons and I got a big pile of the most obnoxious, insufferable writing and plot devices I've seen in a looooong time. One other criticism I have and seem to share with other readers is that Nash and Lina fall hard and fast for one another but don’t have many scenes where they are really talking and getting to know one another. I simply got the impression that these two characters did not know much about one another apart from mind-blowing sex. Lucian is a power seeker, always bent on revenge and erasing the damage his father did to the family name. He’s bonded with the feisty librarian over a dark secret from the past and their current hatred for each other. Waylay is such a good kid ! Smart, intelligent and witty that there’s no way you don’t fall in love with her and cheer for them to be happy … Naomi wasn’t just running away from her wedding. She was riding to the rescue of her estranged twin only to have her evil twin steal Naomi’s car and cash, leaving Naomi with a niece she didn’t know she had.

Honestly, I should have DNFed because even the scenes I was looking forward to in the book (the ones promoting it on TikTok, you guys know what I mean) were a letdown. There is one particular character I instantly knew I needed a book from and that’s my baby Lucian!! The small snippets you see of him in this book is going to make you fall and fall hard. I hadn’t even finished the book at the time when I decided that he was gonna be my next obsession. (Ofc he’s gonna come second to Mr. Bearded Badboy Grumpy Knox Morgan because that man is everythiiiing) NOPEEEEE. Two things can be true. It was the first book that left me feeling so excited AND I really loved it.I have no idea why I put this book for so long ! And man I regret it cause now I need to need about Nash and Lucian urgente ‼️ a nosey town full of people way too invested in this couples business and literally turn against him when he breaks up with her Score does a beautiful job describing the characters, the setting, and the feelings of those involved. I feel that reading her books is a very immersive experience. It’s always a struggle for me to start a book because there’s always that lull at the beginning when you’re getting to know the characters before you get invested, but I was into this from the START. And that’s how I usually know I’ll love the book, is when I’m invested by the end of the first chapter or the first few.

Nooooooo, but that's not stereotypical enough. A sunshine character is quirky!!! She loves coffee! She can't remember where she parked her car! She is so entertaining!! Did I mention she LOOOOOOOOOOVES coffee? Oh I didn't? Don't worry, the author will make her groan and pout 22 times while she's thinking about coffee before chapter 10, and that is just soooooooooo sexy. This story does end with a HEA for the couple, and Knox did make an effort to change towards the end, but it was a little too late for me. We all have hang-ups, but it doesn’t mean we go through life as a jerk. I felt he was emotionally abusive, controlling, and passive-aggressive.And the spice, well, if you like it… it’s very much there. This was, at its core, a romance of two unlikely people, and the witty supporting cast that surrounded them was more than entertaining. Knox and Naomi get married, and Tina signs over custody of Waylay to the couple. They live in the main lodge while Liza J lives in the cottage that Naomi used to stay in. Knox and Naomi try to have babies of their own but prove to be infertile. The novel ends with them telling loved ones that they have adopted two little girls. Waylay has become an important part of their family, and most of the previously single characters have found a love interest. This book descends into Life Lesson territory so fast. I don't read books to feel lectured, and I didn't need every single character to have a drawn-out heart-to-heart with each other to grasp the main meanings behind this book. I'm starting to think that subtlety in writing is a lost art. Coffee was this girl's ENTIRE personality for most of the book. I don't mind characters having an obsession with a food or drink, but when it's ALL they talk about, think about, or go get, it's ANNOYING.
