the sky, do have a somewhat more vivid appearance in this version, but not by leaps and bounds. There's a really interesting moment at circa 7:30, The Witch is a masterful slice of folk horror and Second Sight has done it justice. I would have liked something deeper from the production side, but the extras provided are very good, and the film itself looks amazing. Essential for anyone’s collection. A gorgeous film, an arthouse folk horror full of beautiful imagery and sounds, comes with a brand-new director overseen Dolby Vision color grading in one of Second Sight’s oh-so collectible 4K limited edition sets. The "folktale" element obviously plays into this depiction, but since everything is shown more or less "realistically", there doesn't initially As with most folk horror, it’s not often it can be called ‘terrifying’ or even ‘scary’. But its dread-dripped atmosphere, and its spiralling sense of desperation turning into inevitability, unsettles and oppresses like few genre films of recent times. Unafraid to embrace its supernatural sensibilities – there’s little doubt as to what is actually going on - Eggars stays the course and has complete faith in his cast to provide the hook into the ambience and mood of the film, instead of any plot complexities or contrivances. Overall, the image is not a traditional 4K showcase. But that doesn’t mean it’s not exactly as the director intended and in this case, that sense of dream-like confusion and escalating sense that things are moving away from ‘normal’ at an alarming rate is perfectly captured here. The most interesting aspect of the movie is its mythology. After Kaulder's curse, he becomes a witch hunter. A secret religious sect has been tasked with keeping him safe while he works in conjunction with the witch counsel. His job is to hunt down the bad witches and bring them in for justice so witches can live in harmony with humans.
