About this deal

I started out pretty traditionally, though; I went to university, graduated – tick that box – and had a brief flirtation with The City, brief being the operative word! If you really love gin and want to try even more delicious concoctions, try the Craft Gin Club– they deliver great gin straight to your door.

King of Soho is made in the heart of London by Howard Raymond, son of Paul Raymond, the property tycoon who helped revolutionise Soho and make it the wonderful centre for culture it is today. The emotive motivation for breaking into the industry was prevalent as she explains her father, who was a doctor and quite the character in the local area, was also a gin drinker. The most important thing at the beginning is having an idea and a hunch, and then you have to back it up. Before gin became the tipple of choice for stylish Londoners, it was feared it would be the downfall of society as the Georgians knew it. If that all means nothing to you, rest assured it tastes great – and as already pointed out, looks fabulous too.Paul Raymond ‘The King of Soho' was an entertainment and property tycoon who, from the 1950s onwards, played a pivotal role in the cultural and social liberation of British society. And she used to have that sneaky glass of sherry on the side which none of us were meant to know about when she made the trifle.

Oh, it was as simple as in an epiphany sitting in a bar with Howard Raymond, who is my business partner. Here are some great tours which will take you under the surface and introduce you to some of London’s best gin experiences. There is, of course, a practical, boring administrative side to running a business, which we’re not going to bore the readers with! All that has well and truly changed now, and the City of London Distillery was at the forefront of that revolution.

Naming the brand after Howard’s father was a way of celebrating his life and the district of London that he helped revolutionise many years ago. And then I ended up in Holland, where I did supply chain management, which sounds a bit boring, but has become incredibly useful with the gin, as you can imagine. Exuding an infectious passion when discussing the product, Alex explains how and what inspired her to crack the gin industry. While the bold and colourful design of the bottles is a nod to the vibrant past, present and future of Soho, the drink itself was inspired by Howard Raymond’s father. Soft juniper with a high presence of citrus botanicals including grapefruit peel is balanced by angelica root and cassia.

Who hasn’t dreamed of starting a bar or distillery with their best friend, especially after a few fine drinks have been consumed? It’s a London dry gin, so as you know, that means that we don’t add any sugar added after distillation. Although having moved to London, Alex speaks fondly of her home town and deems herself a profound northern soul. But you aren’t knocking back glass after glass, you are analysing what’s in there, working out what you want more of and then drawing up a profile of what you want your gin to taste like.
