About this deal

Paradoxically this lens is a completely different and larger design than the 23mm f/2 lens used in the Fuji X100, X100S, X100T and X100F. Manual focus ring is electronic, so it only works if you select MANUAL FOCUS (M) on your camera. Manual focus override only works if you have the shutter half-pressed and only during SINGLE (S) autofocus. The focus ring is completely ignored in CONTINUOUS autofocus (C) mode.

The resistance of the manual focus ring is similar to before, albeit a fraction smoother and more fluid. One possible explanation for the improved feel of both the aperture and manual focus rings is the addition of internal weather seals. When you uncouple the lens from the camera you’ll also notice a rubber ring at the rear that effectively seals it against the metal lens mount. The 23mm f2, much like the other lenses in the series, is built to be weather and dust-resistant. So it can withstand being in light rain or strong winds. It can also shoot in temperatures of up to -10°C, making it the perfect accessory on any winter trip. The reason for this is simple: I wanted a camera with a good design, fast and accurate autofocus, a good video quality, interchangeable lenses, an easy way for dialling in manual mode, good high ISO shots, and most importantly, a system I can rely on. I found all of this in the Fuji X-T3. Here’s a comparison between those two. 23mm f2 vs 35mm f2: Which of Fuji’s weather resistant primes is better?Above left: XF 23mm f2 at f2. Above right: XF 23mm f1.4 at f1.4. At closest focusing distance of each lens. The Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2 R WR lens has a minimum focusing distance of 0.22m, with a maximum magnification of 0.13x. It is not a true macro lens, but you can use it for typical macro subjects, such as flowers and still life, to good effect. If you're not getting ultra-sharp pictures with this, be sure not to shoot at f/11 or smaller where all lenses are softer due to diffraction, always shoot at ISO 160 because cameras become softer at higher ISOs, avoid shooting across long distances over land which can lead to atmospheric heat shimmer, be sure everything is in perfect focus, set your camera's sharpening as you want it and be sure nothing is moving, either camera or subject. If you want to ensure a soft image with any lens, shoot at f/16 at ISO 1,600 at default sharpening in daylight through heat shimmer of rapidly moving subjects at differing distances in the same picture. I chose the 23mm F2 lens because I wanted to limit myself on the streets. This lens was also very affordable. 23mm was the perfect choice for me. It has a great angle to shoot street photography, the image quality is amazing and the aperture of F2 is enough for me on the streets.

Above is another more literal example showing the impact of their closest focusing distance where I shot a ruler as close as possible with each lens. Above left, the XF 23mm f2 is reproducing a subject width of 140mm across the frame, compared to 206mm for the XF 23mm f1.4 above right. It’s not a huge difference, but the closer focusing distance of the newer XF 23mm f2 will certainly allow you to reproduce smaller subjects larger on the frame. This would at first suggest it’ll be preferable to product and food photographers, but the relatively soft output at close range would have me choosing an alternative option – the newer XF 23mm f2 is happier with subjects at least 1m away, and best of all on the other side of a street. The Fujifilm XF 23mm F/2 is one of four newer lenses that Fujifilm have produced. The remaining three include the Fujifilm XF 50mm F/2, Fujifilm XF 35mm F/2, and the Fujifilm XF16 mm F/2.8. At its widest point around the aperture ring, the XF 23mm f2 has a maximum diameter of 57mm, but again this tapers beyond the aperture ring to 45mm by the time you reach the 43mm filter thread at the end. Meanwhile the lens barrel measures 52mm in length, making it a fairly compact walk-around lens, albeit not quite in the pancake territory of models like the XF 27mm f2.8. This means that it will provide a wide field of view, making it ideal for landscape and architectural photography. Additionally, the xf 23mm f2 has a minimum focal length of 2mm. This is good news for close-up photographers, as it means that they will be able to get close to their subject while still being able to capture a wide scene. XF 23mm f2 Review Lens Construction
