About this deal

He is also a freelance designer of murals, exhibitions models, magazine illustrations and advertisements. This book has beautiful illustrations which are ripe for emulation, from watercolour to pencil line drawings. Get Off Our Train is about a little boy and his toy dog as they go on an imaginary adventure on a train. Encourage your child to make a poster about them with a drawing and one or two facts you have found together. But soon all sorts of endangered animals are asking if they can jump up and join them on their journey.

Many illustration commissions followed, including iconic posters for London Transport, before the publication of B orka: the Adventures of a Goose with No Feathers, John’s first book for children. I am planning to give him this book for Christmas since he still asks for the "train book" everyday. When a little boy goes to sleep, the toy train in his bedroom comes alive, piloted by a miniature version of the boy. We enjoyed it and it is very good to use for all years in Primary as you could adapt your lessons to their age and understanding.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is celebrating its 50th year in print with a limited edition in hardback to be published in 2015. With a train full of animals, the journey continues until the boy realises that he has to get home for, as he says, 'I have to get to school in the morning. The characters are all endangered animals, attempting to board a little boy’s fantasy dream train as he chugs through different landscapes, playing with his pyjama-case dog. The story can be used to introduce children to the ideas of the environment, endangered animals and the problems they face. I’m 100% for saving the polar bears and raising awareness of these issues with children but this was a strange way to do it. This book alone opens the doors to many meaningful teaching and learning opportunities as children can learn about species in science as well as endangerment and conservation. I love the way Burningham has combined his usual illustration style (and there's undoubtedly a word for it (that I don't know) to explain the 'childish' drawings) with some fabulous full page pictures of the train and the places they travel through, in a very different style.

We enjoyed the twist, the reader thinks it's a dream sequel or imaginary play but the next day the animals are roaming about the boys house. Planning a science lesson around the best fabric for umbrellas, like the umbrella's used in the book. I think there is also a little darkness to the pictures, which is suited to the underlying tone of the book.He tells the elephant to get off the train, but the elephant begs him to let him stay due to a human trying to take his tusks.
