About this deal

We have a Destroyer Cult one, a Canoptek Court one, a Character heavy one, and a sweet Phasing one – the Hypercrypt Legion. Both books are very different in how they play, so let’s sit down, pull up a chair, and chit-chat a bit about what I like from each book. Both from a thematic standpoint (like, how do we have Overlords when there are no Lords to be Over, as I’ve seen others on reddit say? These Necrons were far more fun to play against in my opinion, with a unique vulnerability compensated for by overwhelming firepower and durability, and the only Necron player i know uses this book when we have friendly games.

They seem especially strong in some kind of teleporting shenanigans build, but are much better as just a generic add-on to a list that needs some heft. It’s cool, but it’s something I want to play a few games with to really gauge if it’s just too easy to play around. The Orb of Eternity sends Necron self-repair into overdrive, guaranteeing that the bearer’s unit will animate a full 3 wounds each time its Reanimation Protocols activate. It gives me hope that things beyond just detachment and stratagem tweaks are in line for all the upcoming books. I'm trying to see what can be leveraged in the detachments, and not focus too much on the datasheet nerfs.

The Annihilation Legion* wants one thing above all else – to wreak utter destructive havoc – and they’re frighteningly effective at getting to grips in close combat when the Annihilation Protocol sets in. This book also contains a one-use code to unlock Codex: Necrons content in Warhammer 40,000: The App. The Sovereign Coronal is also back, but with a new name ( Phasal Subjugator) and a slight re-wording, but in essence it grants a +1 to Hit Aura for Necron units (but now not Charaters) within 6″. There are only five detachments which some will thnk is not enough, but I think it just brings the rules more into focus into each of the options.

This is one of my oldest standing armies, and I was going to continue working on my latest iteration regardless of mass hysteria. Necrons Stratagems were some of the best in the Indexes, and though there are some tweaks here the suite remains extremely strong. All we ask is the product still be in its original packaging and you have your proof of purchase and we'll be happy to help. The canoptek court is the closest thing I think we’ve got to 5th Ed levels of Royal Court shenanigans and that’s what I really want to replicate. Departed Friends: A lot of the resin Epic Heroes (Anrakyr, Obyron, Zandrekh, plus vanilla Lords) are gone, which is sort of understandable, but hits very strangely when they feature heavily in some of the narrative sections of the book. Our current hot take is that the Canoptek Court is extremely strong, the Arisen Dynasty, Obeisance Phalanx and Hypercrypt Legion are cool and can be put to work, and the Destroyer Cult is pretty terrible. I’ll probably try a Monolith build at some point too, but I’ve genuinely come to the conclusion it might actually be better in the Obeisance Phalanx, so this is what you’re getting for now. I completely get not wanting unkillable bricks, but the army at higher levels did not win a ton with this strategy. With a few core units you can quickly rearrange your army and make it very hard for your opponent to have a good footing.

Look – no power in the universe is going to stop me taking the Terrible Trio to at least one RTT, and I’d kindly ask you to stop trying. It’s almost odd that the Datasheets haven’t really changed, it almost feels like it’s not a new Codex at all! These phalanxes are joined by techno-sorcerous war engines, scuttling constructs, and shards of shattered star gods, led to war by undying nobles with wills and bodies of unyielding metal, driven by the absolute conviction that they are the rightful rulers of the galaxy. As veteran Necron commanders will know, the Monolith provides its own portal for Reserve units to enter the fray precisely where you need them.

I won’t dive into every last thing in the book, as I am just one lowly little Goatboy who tries his darnedest to read as much as I can, play when I can, and yell about death to the false Emperor when I can. Aside from the Awakening Dynasty detachment Warhammer Community have been shouting about the Hypercrypt Legion, and with good reason, because in my opinion for general army builds this is up there with the Awakening Dynasty.
