My cell phone, my daily companion for almost 3 years. Have not had any problems so far. It takes really good pictures and videos. The quality of the files is also very, very good. The speed is also very good. You have a lot of settings. Worth buying. The Ultra is designed for early adopters, and three things stand out: it has a massive 6.9-inch display with next-gen fluid-scrolling tech that will stretch your hand; five cameras to capture 108MP photos, 40MP selfies and 8K video, and 5G antennas with peak speeds 66 times as fast as 4G LTE. Instead of waffling on for much longer, I’d like to close things out by simply saying that the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is the most impressive Android smartphone that’s ever been released. The Ultra features a 40 MP front camera rather than the 10 MP on the other S20s. In addition to auto-HDR for high-contrast images, the camera captures 4K video at up to 60 fps. 108 MP Rear Camera The rest of the internal specs are all top-of-the-line: a 7nm chipset (Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 in the US, or Samsung’s Exynos 990 in the UK and Europe), 12GB or 16GB or RAM, 128GB or 512GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot for expandable storage. Running on an Exynos 990 processor with Android 10 preinstalled, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G handles the most demanding apps with ease. Consumers have the option between 128 GB internal memory with 12 GB RAM or 512 GB internal memory with 16 GB RAM. Both versions offer memory expansion of up to 1 TB via microSD card. The phone is powered by a 5000 mAh battery that supports fast charging, wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. It makes sense for the same reason recording 8K video is often a good idea even if you don’t own anything more than a 4K TV: you can crop and edit without sacrificing detail. It gives you creative latitude, even if you ultimately output to a 12MP photo and 1080p video. There are many reasons why the S20 Ultra is so expensive and how important the reasons are to you should help decide whether or not the phone is for you. It’s fully 5G, for example, with no 4G-only option offered. It also attempts to push the industry forward with a mammoth camera array, a screen size that dwarfs just about everything else.

My summary says it all, really, but there’s no getting around it: the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, despite only launching at the beginning of 2020, is already this year’s best flagship Android phone. However, no matter how exciting it may be – it has the most zoomable camera we’ve ever seen and a 120Hz screen – it actually costs more than the ludicrously expensive iPhone 11 Pro Max. According to our display colourimeter, the S20 Ultra’s screen is pretty much faultless, aside from a slight discrepancy with oversaturated dark red tones. Contrast – as you’d expect from one of Samsung’s AMOLED screens – is a perfect infinity:1, and the screen is capable of getting plenty bright, peaking at 667cd/m2 with a torch shining directly on the ambient light sensor. Some people have launched complaints about dust getting in the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra camera housing, though we haven't experienced much that in our extensive testing. The complaints appear to be – mostly – limited to Korea. Using 5G hogs battery life, and in part to counter this the Galaxy S20 Ultra has a 5,000mAh battery capacity, while the S20 Plus has a 4,500mAh battery. We found that the Ultra lasted longer than 24 hours on days we weren't testing 5G speeds non-stop.

For all these high-end internals, the S20 Ultra runs and performs like any other flagship Android. You can play any game from Google Play at the best settings without a hitch, lag in the UI is virtually non-existent and apps open instantly. Samsung has already wowed us with a 6.9-inch 120Hz display on the S20 Ultra, but the compromise here is the same as with that phone: you have to choose between 120Hz in 1080p, or dropping to 60Hz to enjoy the QuadHD resolution.TouchWiz branding might have been absent from Samsung phones for years, but it’s only recently that the software on the brand’s phones has recovered from years of, well, being awful. The Dynamic AMOLED display on Galaxy S20 Ultra received a certification from VDE Germany for 100 percent Mobile Color Volume in the DCI-P3 color range, which means your images aren’t washed out and you’ll get unbelievably vivid colors regardless of differing levels of brightness. The display can achieve peak brightness of up to 1200 nits, improving the contrast between dark and light aspects of digital content for a more brilliant picture quality, with a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio to make your mobile experience more immersive. Is this squared-off frame better than a rounded one? That’s highly subjective, but it allows for the S Pen to easily slide straight up into the left side of the phone – a minor change from the right-side slot where previous Note phones had you holster the stylus. Update 2021: Please note that prices on the S20 have dropped by several hundred pounds in anticipation of the S30's release!

In fact, there’s currently no Android phone on the market that’s any faster than this. I say Android because Apple’s A13 Bionic – which powered the iPhone 11 lineup – still has everything beat. Not that you should worry though, as the S20 Ultra is powerful enough to handle absolutely anything you care to throw at it, and then some.It features an outright huge 6.9-inch display that covers the majority of the front and curves slightly around the phone’s edges. The only obvious item breaking up the otherwise all-screen aesthetic is a small hole-punch notch in the middle of the top edge. Make no mistake this is a glorious OLED panel, but that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who has used a flagship Samsung phone before. We found the Super AMOLED display to be bright and pixel-dense at its 3200 x 1440 QHD resolution, yet also look perfectly fine at the default Full HD+ resolution. The lower resolution saves battery life and – spoiler – it’s the only resolution at which you can experience the 120Hz screen refresh rate; that’s not QuadHD-compatible yet. All of those impressive specs are before you even consider the camera - the real selling point. There's now a 10x optical zoom and a absolutely massive 100x zoom. The Ultra even manages to make use of advanced pixel stitching technology for clean resolution in your photos. However, this is obviously the usual argument of Apple vs Samsung with two different operating systems and approaches to how people will use their phones. This essentially comes down to which platform you prefer. Is the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra worth its price tag?

Well, currently the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra looks like one of the best smartphones ever released. It has the best display of any phone ever (factually, not subjectively), a 5000mAh battery, a 6.9-inch display and a slightly ridiculous 12/16GB RAM. Seeing a timer ring form around the 10MP selfie camera punch hole, rather than having to badly guess where the camera lens is inside the display – invaluable for group selfies. Review summary: Design: 4/5 - Features: 4.5/5 - Ease-of-use: 4.5/5 - Image quality: 4/5 - Value for money: 3.5/5 So you're paying more Apple's new launch...is it better? Both devices come with 5G capabilities and while Apple's processor is faster, both feature market-leading cameras in different sectors. This is merely a small part of a story, however. The idea here isn’t to shoot at 108-megapixels, or even 48 megapixels for that matter, but to use all the data collected to create superior 12-megapixel snaps. For instance, the 108-megapixel camera will combine nine pixels into one much larger pixel, while the telephoto will do the same but with four pixels. This should, in theory, let far more light into the sensor and produce a brighter, sharper photo.

We still found that some iPhone 11 Pro Max and Google Pixel 4 photos retained more detail in low-light situations, although Samsung seems to have improved its Night Mode over the last year, and side-by-side, no one is doing telephoto better than Samsung – unless you count Huawei’s non-Android phones. That move will likely annoy some, it did annoy me initially, as you’re essentially forced away from making the most of a display you’ve spent over a grand on. But, thankfully, at 1080p it remains a very sharp, colour accurate panel that sets a new standard for FHD screens. Of course, the 108MP sensor isn’t the only camera at your disposal. There’s also a 12MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide camera, as well as the aforementioned 48MP (f/3.5) telephoto zoom lens and what Samsung calls a “DepthVision” sensor, which is just a silly name for your run-of-the-mill depth sensor. The 48 MP telephoto lens delivers 10x hybrid optical zoom and 100x digital zoom supported by optical image stabilisation. Thanks to the high sensor resolution and folded-lens technology, the optical hybrid zoom is lossless. In video mode, the main lens captures 8K footage at up to 30 fps, supported by action-cam image stabilisation. Powerful Performance
