About this deal

In addition to your mission’s shared primary objective, every Combat Patrol can also choose between a pair of secondary objectives that let you define how you play. Wrath of the Emperor has you send your juggernaut Captain right into the fray, spraying guts and ichor with storm bolter and power sword, scoring 2VP for each phase in which he kills any models. Every faction’s army rules will remain largely the same – Tyranids retain Shadow in the Warp and Synapse , for example – but each Combat Patrol features Enhancements unique to this game mode to let you tweak your WARLORD and try out new strategies. This ability disrupts your opponent’s battle plans, and reflects just how horrifying it would be to stand up to hordes of hungry aliens. The purpose of aTyranid assault on a planet is torender it down into usable biomass to feed to the hive ships. Assimilation organisms facilitate that process, including squirming Rippers, psychic Psychophage, and ravenous Haruspex, before they too are rendered down into bio-slurry. There’s even ways for units to take on Monsters or Vehicles that are in other Combat Patrols with the clever use of Stratagems: It isn’t all aggression, though – the alien and unknowable Hive Mind** can bring its immense psychic powers to bear through Zoanthropes , activating the Warp Shielding ability to protect its most essential combat bioforms.

One of the best things about painting Tyranids is that, as an utterly alien race undergoing constant adaptation, they look fantastic in any colour scheme you can think of. The way you paint your miniatures in no way restricts how they play on the tabletop, so let your imagination run wild! With 10 different Synaptic Imperatives to choose between – including one tied to a certain newly-spotted skyborne gribbly – you’ll have a mouth-watering menu of strategic options for overrunning your cowering foes. WhileHarvester units are in range of an objective that the Tyranid player controls, they will regenerateTyranid units, healing lostwounds or returning infantry models to play. Note: Every faction is going to receive a new 9th Edition codex eventually, so do be mindful that if you’re buying in with 8th Edition books you will find them obsolete within the coming year or two.

Is the Tyranids Combat Patrol Worth It?

The Shrouding Spores ability offered by Venomthropes and Forgeworld Malanthropes are a strong defensive option and we recommend it highly. Venomthropes are more generally available as standard kits, but they’re easier to target and destroy than Malanthropes. You’ll see Malanthropes fielded in a lot of competitive lists for this and other reasons but know that using one implies you’re shelling out for the specialty model and the Imperial Armour Compendium rulebook which increases your army cost a good deal.
