Whether you've been considering getting into tarot or are a seasoned expert who reads for LGBT+ and POC clients, I recommend The Modern Witch Tarot Deck wholeheartedly. Several months ago when I first saw some of the cards for “Modern Witch,” I was *so* excited for the deck to come out.And in a deck that makes a solid run at inclusivity and representation, I would have liked to have seen more male-bodied figures and trans representation. While tarot cards trace back all the way to the 15th century, and divination even earlier, as with many things, they’re having a season of resurgence, and we are not mad at it!
Her work is often bright, expressive and occasionally tinged with horror – marrying her two favorite themes: the beautiful and the grotesque. This is exacting line work, with little shading, and block colours - it requires flawless execution and this deck has it in spades.But as more and more cards images hit and I realized the deck was entirely populated by female-bodied figures, my enthusiasm took a sharp nosedive.
