About this deal

The ET650 is more tolerant of dropping to 80% DOD without actual 'damage', it is one of the true Deep Cycling batteries but you will lose about a third of the cycle life if you do it regularly. At a guess, you would achieve 250 cycles at 80% DOD as opposed to 350 cycles at 50% DOD. But that is only a guess. The Varta LFD90 Dual purpose battery is much better suited to a motorhome Starter battery than a 'dedicated' starter battery, because motorhome starter batteries often slip to much lower discharge levels when the vehicle is idle and most Starter batteries fail to cope so well with this type of use, preferring to be used each day. If you do ever deep discharge the battery down past 50%, I would suggest you think about using some other charger to take the initial 10 minute load of charging, like the Alternator, etc. A. Ideally, charge each battery on a separate charger unit. If this is not possible, charge batteries in series. We do not recommend charging batteries in parallel because it is not possible to control the amount of current passing through each battery. If batteries in different states-of-charge are being charged in series, each battery should be removed as soon as it is charged. (If you wait until the last battery is charged, some of the batteries will be overcharged).

Yes it is true that old fashion, single stage chargers of 13.5v - 13.8v dominated for most British built Caravans and Motorhomes up to about 2004. Chargers like those from Zig, Plug In Systems, BCA, etc were almost all 13.5v - 13.8v fixed output chargers, fitted in Swift's, Lunars, Coachman's, Elddis etc.

Constant Current Chargers

C. Charge the battery at the recommended charge rate. If you cannot set the recommended rate, extend or reduce the charging time on a pro rata basis. For example, if the recommendation is to charge the battery at 4.0A for 6 hours (24Ah = 4.0 x 6), charge the battery for 12 hours if you can only set the charger at 2.0A (24Ah = 2.0 x 12).

But regardless of the above and whether we are to be believed, AGM technology hasn't delivered and is being ousted by the newer, more tolerant, lower cost EFB wet Acid Technology. Category A is for batteries with a higher storage capacity for people who frequently use their touring caravan or motorhome away from an electrical hook-up:D. Charge the battery for the number of hours shown in the table below depending on the open-circuit voltage.

recommends using a smart charger to greatly improve your leisure battery’s service life.
