Preparing the surface is of vital importance to enhance the adhesion and life of the coating. All surfaces must be thoroughly dry and clean as well as sound and stable. Metal surfaces should be wire brushed to remove rust and for long-term protection, a rust-inhibitive product such as zinc phosphate or red lead should be used. Blistered or loose paint as well as tar-based paint systems should be eliminated. New galvanised surfaces should be treated with a proprietary etch primer or roughened with a wire brush. Since concrete and some stone surfaces may be porous, an initial primer coat of Everbuild bitumen primer should be applied. Bitumen Paint may bleed through any paints subsequently applied over it. Apply a primer recommended by the paint manufacturer before overpainting. Protecting coating on concrete etc: Due to the porous nature of concrete and some stone surfaces, an initial primer coat of Everbuild primer should be applied. Bitumen paint, adhesives, and primers are ideal for areas that need to be made waterproof and robust enough to face the elements. While bituminous coatings are most commonly used for outdoor surfaces, such as roofs, metal guttering, railings and fences, some items in our range can also be used indoors for certain applications.

A minimum of two coats of Bitumen Paint should be applied, the first been allowed to dry (normally 2-4 hours depending on weather conditions) before the second is applied. Tools may be cleaned by using white spirit. Spillage’s should be wiped off surfaces before the bitumen paint has set. Ready to use, this Everbuild paint should not be thinned and can be applied by spray or brush. A minimum of two layers should be added to the surface. The first coating should be left to dry before applying the second which typically takes two to four hours depending on weather conditions.
