About this deal

Older Than They Look: Namor was born in the 1920's (and might be even older, if his comment to Teen Jean that he had lived "a dozen human lifetimes" was more than enraged hyperbole), teamed up with Captain America during World War II, and still looks like a man in the prime of his life. Justified due to his half-Atlantean physiology. Namor: Cease. Namor reserves personally showing his kingdom for women he’s seducing, and you are simply not my type. Ridiculously Small Wings: He can fly using two tiny wings on his ankles. Omnidisciplinary Scientist Reed Richards remarks that Namor's ankle wings shouldn't have that much lift power, but Namor flies nevertheless. Tamara Rahn was an extraterrestrial and member of the water breathing Banari race from the planet Laab. The planet was destroyed, but she escaped on a craft which headed for the oceans of Earth.

Sub-Mariner (Comic Book) - TV Tropes Sub-Mariner (Comic Book) - TV Tropes

Once WWII got rolling, he allied with Captain America to fight the Nazis but petered out in appearances until 1962 when he was reintroduced in Fantastic Four #4 as a villain. There he generally serves as one of FF’s recurring nuisances as well as Reed Richard’s (Mr. Fantastic) romantic rival for Sue Storm’s (The Invisible Woman) affections. While he usually appears as a villain, Namor is generally classified as an antihero due to the fact that most of his actions, good or bad, are done to preserve/protect his undersea kingdom, Atlantis, which he is the ruler of. On top of all of that, he’s considered Marvel’s “first mutant” in regards to being the first official mutant appearance in comics. The Saga of the Serpent Crown actually started out in the early days of the universe, when gods started killing each other to gain their powers. Set, the first murderer in existence, created the Serpent Crown, and that returned in the Sub-Mariner series in 1968. You Cannot Grasp the True Form: For the most part, in Sub-Mariner: The Depths, Namor looks like ◊ a creepier version of himself, as seen by the crew. But once Dr. Stein goes mad, he sees... this. Captain Fishman: The Trope Maker, having been the first "sea superhero" before Aquaman came up two years later and made it popular. Notable Aliases: Andrea McPhee, Genevieve Cross, Lady Andromeda Nationality: Atlantean Species: Atlantean First Appearance: The Defenders #143 (March, 1985)In Avengers Vs. X-Men, Namor was one of the Phoenix Five. The Phoenix Five was Namor, Cyclops, Colossus, Magik, and Emma Frost. With those powers, the mutants set out to make the world a better place. A slow pot-burner of a book, this really captures the claustrophobia and isolaton of the undersea experience, coupled with that lurking fear of the unknown Fantastic Racism: In his youth he was a pariah in Atlantis due to, being, well, white - where normal Atlanteans are blue. They called him "pale crab." He's happy to note that they don't do that anymore, but the Blue Marvel thinks they just don't do it to his face. It's indicated that Blue Marvel is right... probably because they know it's worth their lives if they did call him that.

Sub-Mariner: The Depths Series by Peter Milligan - Goodreads

Only Sane Man: When The Illuminati voted to send The Hulk into space, of the Illuminati members present at the vote he was the only member who voted against it. To see why this makes him the sane one, please see World War Hulk. Namor the Sub-Mariner is the ruler of undersea Atlantis. The offspring of a sea captain and an Atlantean princess, he has been both a hero and a villain to the surface world. Namor is one of Marvel's oldest published characters with his origins in the Golden Age of comics. Foil: Llyra, who is a hybrid like Namor, but of the Atlantean offshoots called the Lemurians, and has Shapeshifting powers and telepathic control over sea life, as well as the psychotic belief that her human form is actually another person. His highest profile projects to date include a run on X-Men, and his X-Force revamp that relaunched as X-Statix.Lightning Bruiser: Strong enough to slug it out with some of Marvel's heaviest hitters, not to mention terrifyingly fast.

Sub-Mariner: The Depths (2008 - 2009) | Comic Series | Marvel

Admiring the Abomination: Dr. Stein does it once he fully spots Namor. ◊ Namor, understandably, isn't amused. ◊ Heel–Face Revolving Door: When he was first introduced in 1939, he was written as a Well-Intentioned Extremist Villain Protagonist, someone who'd basically kill any human civilian because we're all responsible for the sorry state of the ocean. World War II drafted him onto the heroic side, as he started aiming his rage at the Axis powers. Since his Silver Age return he's mostly been one of the good guys, but can turn on the other good guys at the drop of a hat. Notable Aliases: Queen of the Sharks, Beautiful Goddess of the Seals Nationality: Atlantean Species: Atlantean First Appearance: Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1 (April, 1939) There's not a whole lot of Namor in this. He's essentially the boogey-man in a creepy horror story. Flight, Strength, Heart: Namor has super strength, can fly, breathe both air and water, can charge his body with electricity, has telepathic control over undersea life... and at one time could puff himself up like a puffer fish.

Canis Latinicus: His Catchphrase, Imperius Rex. "Imperius" is a nonsense (though obviously derived from the real Latin word imperium). There are quite similar-sounding real words that could be used instead to make it make sense, but as it stands, the phrase is a prime example of this trope. (The second element, Rex, is legitimate; it means King.) Namor returned to the Marvel Comics Universe in Fantastic Four #4, reintroduced for a new generation. Human Torch quit the Fantastic Four in anger and when he goes to a homeless community, he finds a homeless man who seems familiar. Notable Aliases: Deadpool Nationality: American Species: Human First Appearance: Tales to Astonish #95 (September, 1967) note As Walter Newell; Sub-Mariner #19 (November, 1969) note As Stingray

Gadgeteer Genius: Dr. Newell is a brilliant engineer and inventor constructing advanced equipment and machinery for his experiments in the ocean. The writing is good, as mentioned above, the concept is brilliant, and as I’m about to get into, only one thing really drags it down.Marrina, a green-skinned fish girl and Alpha Flight member, was married to Namor for a time and is a rare female example. Evil Counterpart: Tiger Shark, a human diver genetically overlaid with an actual tiger shark and with Namor's hybrid genetics.
