The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR-10, presented in its original 2.It’s probably evident to fans that this is the dark, cliffhanger-y Empire Strikes Back of the trilogy, but if you’re pitching it to casual viewers who just really liked the talking pig in part one, take note.
Other titles coming in 2023 include Hlynur Pálmason’s Godland, Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne’s Tori and Lokita, and Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch’s The Eight Mountains. There’s more to it than that, but the way they break down scenes with sets and action reflecting internal themes helps open the film up to deeper reads. The animated style (for those nitpicking) is a bit marmite - I didn’t mind it but some people may not gel with it - and some of the multiverse concepts might go over smaller children or casuals heads. I think this version is sold out now but if you're lucky and have a 4K TV I'd highly recommend getting this version. In terms of a continuation hook it couldn’t be better, but in terms of a story closure it is frustrating as all hell. Number 42 is the answer to the meaning of life, the universe and everything, at least according to the The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
