But this one, for me, was a little escape once in a while, and I was more grateful for it than I expected. Along for the Ride is a fairly simple story, sure, but it feels right and true and satisfying, thanks to Dessen’s deft touch. A BMXer, he takes her on nightly adventures and he challenges her to a quest to do all the things she missed out on in her childhood. Eli has this great back story of why he's the typical brooding-mysterious-hot-coveted guy we all know so much, but, as I mentioned above, it could have been done better.
