About this deal

I walk back to the living room and pick up my discarded shirt, taking my cigarettes out of the pocket and lighting one. This, in turn opens the door to reflections of the legitimacy of legal crimes involving dead bodies such as desecration, necrophilia or even cannibalism. Almost political in nature is also main character’s (MC) sexual life – although he acknowledges the root of his sexual preference stemming from the fact that dead bodies are safe and can’t hurt you, they won’t lie and cheat and reject you, he also takes a certain kind of pride in the deviancy of that preference. I was curious as to how all this would end and even I didn’t see that coming to the point where yeah, you finish it and are left wondering what the hell you just read.

Soon after the pair go on a date, the protagonist is nervous as he has a horrible track record with living women and when Helen invites him back to her place he goes.Overall, Dead Inside was a dark and disturbing read that turned out to be one of the most gripping novels I have read in a while despite its subject matter. It turns out she has a penchant for a certain kind of snack and the pair hit it off, albeit awkwardly. Because all I got was a grown man that thinks and talks like an edgy tumblr teen and scenes so absurdly over-the-top I laughed as I read them. I see a lot of people saying Morrison’s writing is brilliant and unique because all of this is intended as satire, and maybe that’s true and I’m the one who’s missing something here, but either way, Dead Inside didn’t work for me, and not for the reasons I expected. The references to better books was groan-inducing, but I did laugh out loud when our main character said Fight Club is his favorite Palahniuk.

Even though it deals with extremely sensitive topics, this wasn’t anything I expected at all that ended up being a solid read.the mc is obviously very disgruntled and grossed out by the fact that he’s actually relating to another human being and to his absolute horror, he actually starts to like her, in his own sociopathic way. Now one thing to remember is that if so many people struggled with this book then you’re going to need to pick a reader who can deal with it if they’re performing for an audience, but the thing that actually struck me about this is that not only did he deal with the subject matter but at one point during a fairly graphic description he sounded like he was about to climax. I found myself skimming over some of the more detailed accounts of specific actions, just to get to the parts where the characters were having a dialog about their feelings or the story had progressed past points of discomfort and I wanted to see what was going to happen.

It’s not a long read, I did it in a couple of sittings but you could spread it further because the chapters are quite short, so you can pick it up and put it down as required without having to stop part way through a section. His is almost an act of anti-mainstream rebellion, a protest against conventional sex, against the obsession with ever younger, firmer, more beautiful bodies. This book is a wild ride down a dark hole and a head-first dive in a putrid puddle of shit, maggots and fuck knows what else. They have a conversation while Helen is consuming a dead baby and he tells her that he isn’t going to tell anyone about her activities if she keeps his own a secret and this act forges a bond between the pair.Dead Inside fell under my radar from a one-star review on how disturbing this book is, and her feelings are valid. Anyone who doesn’t hold any religious beliefs about the whereabouts of the bodies of deceased persons should at least be open to the fact that when a person dies, they cease to exist legally.

the mc caught Helen “in the act” and the whole situation was obviously absurdly funny to me once again.Dead Inside” reminded me of that as just when I thought no way does this book get even crazier and gorier it sure enough did. Though it is a feeling surely everybody can understand to a certain extent, particularly the reader who grabbed this book, I’m not stating this so you’d think that the author uses that to create a sense of companionship or for the reader to be able to relate, to understand this listless figure. All of that said, something about the detached and repetitive nature of the narrative voice made even the most disgusting and graphic scene in this book fall short of actually affecting me.
