It is about you and your crew making a home of your spacecraft or station, your only sanctuary in a dangerous universe. But they did not separate until 10 minutes after retrofire, when the wire bundle finally burned through. DEATH IN SPACE presents a vision of space where technology is broken and dirty, and society is harsh and desperate. Important but never pointless: each page has a well-kept aesthetic to be perfectly functional to the game. Death in Space uses a simple D20, roll-high, dice mechanic for ability checks and combat resolution.

Best of all, it leaves a lot of the experience and adventure up to the players as it is up to them to make a home of their spacecraft or station - if they survive long enough to do so that is! You have ability checks done as 1d20+ability, but advantage and disadvantage are much more rare and require proper situations to be applied.

The technology level in this universe is high enough for faster-than-light travel (bridging), but low enough for characters to be wielding shotguns and wearing flak jackets. These range from short-lived clones, AIs implanted into organic bodies, human rebels or those that routinely live part of their lives in hibernation pods, people cursed to have their minds skip through time, and strange void shamans. Now, if you are going to run a campaign that includes a spaceship, this can also be created after the players are set up.
