About this deal

When the Koch MediaBook was released, including a 4K authoring, it was later revealed it came from the same source. Deleted Scenes, Documentaries: 'Werewolves, Crawlers, Cannibals and More'; 'A History of Lycanthropy'; 'Werewolves, Folklore and Cinema'; 'A Cottage In the Woods'. Media Psychos is a community dedicated to bringing together Media collectors from all over the world. made about whether or not, for example, films are lost or deleted scenes are permanently missing or a negative has mysteriously disappeared.

Marshall cast professional dancers in the role of the werewolves instead of taking the traditional stuntman route because he wanted them to appear graceful on screen. They were also wise enough to keep most of the wolfies hidden, giving only brief glances at times, until the end pretty much. The characters of the squad are so memorable, their interactions and that gallows humour which feels so natural and organic, give them life. While over twenty years old, this still holds up well, because it’s just made with a simple idea, a horror/action film with soldiers vs werewolves in the Scottish highlands. The deleted scenes are interesting, if nonessential, but it’s nice to see Liam Cunningham actually lightening up a bit during the gag reel.No shirtless underwear models lusting after teenage girls here, just a bunch of normal guys desperately trying to survive the night.

Second Sight’s 4K Ultra HD release of Dog Soldiers is a two-disc set that includes a Region B-locked Blu-ray with a 1080p copy of the film. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. It sounds a bit cheesy but you really get a sense that the soldiers were a brotherhood and that makes what happens to them all the more tragic to watch. The camera work was excellent, especially the "shaky cam" technique used during the soldiers' initial departure from the helicopter, and during Spoon's valiant last stand in the kitchen (my favorite scene in the film - absolutely BRILLIANT). What is immediately clear is how filmic this image is; the 16mm grain structure gives an authenticity to the picture. I appreciated that this film features a British cast and is set in Scotland (though it was primarily filmed in Luxembourg).

There has been great care put in to keep it like this while balancing out aspects like the vibrancy and black levels.

Detail is terrific, there is texture to skin, clothing has weave, dirt and grime on the soldiers, wood grain, foliage, tree bark, blood splatter, peeling paint, everything is clear and distinct, with the caveat of the inherent source softness. There are some amusing moments, especially when Pertwee and McKidd both give their own versions of what happened when McKidd accidentally broke Pertwee’s nose. While you’ll never match the beauty of An American Werewolf in London, Dog Soldiers has moments of natural drama as well, a particular stand-out scene involves Megan playing Debussy’s Clair de Lune which adds class as it’s juxtaposed with the howls of those ‘natural’ predators outside, and the gleam of a full moon lingering in the back. Help arrives in the form of a local woman who shelters them in a deserted farmhouse deep in the forest … but when they realize that they are surrounded by a pack of blood-lusting werewolves, it’s apparent their nightmare has just begun! On the other hand, the making-off features are wonderful (as you would expect from a Marshall film if we are being honest).
