About this deal

Balanced Frequency- The mood of the track set by the balance of frequency, any coloration takes away from the collective beauty of the track as a whole.

I was looking for decent headphones to use for extensive practice sessions on my Clavia Nord Stage piano. The rear of the pads look identical, but I noticed the velour material goes farther back on the 880 pad before the seam. Many of the parts can also be exchanged and replaced, so you are guaranteed a product that is built to last. The individual strings that compose the unified sound are easily identified singularly, yet enjoyed just as easily as a whole. You might not be interested on putting down so much money for a pair of headphones, but the difference is obvious. The Sennheiser sound warmer, but also muddier, while the Beyerdynamic have a brighter but also harsher sound. Without an amp, the DT880 at 600 Ohms is pure and clean, and you're going to capture surprising highs backed with tasteful lows.

The overall spectral balance of the DT 880 has a little less bass and a little more midrange and lower treble than the reference Stax SR-007 MK2 Omega II, but the soundstage, depth, clarity and openness are about the same. That being said, Beyerdynamic has made a few compromises in pro version when compared to DT880 premium versions. Despite this it was effortless to pick them out due to the great separation and clarity of these headphones. But, in the long run, I decided that the sound was a bit too cold and analytical, and maybe slightly too bright and lacking a little bit of body for me to enjoy anymore.

Btw, one thing I didn't know before, the E-piano output power is sufficient even for high-impedance headphones.Padding is great, even with the firm clamping force out of box, the ear pads did a great job of eliminating pressure. V shaped, no actually theres are one of the most balanced cans, what your enjoying is a very balanced sound signiture. The Beyerdynamic DT 880 and the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO are similarly-performing headphones for critical listening.

I was a little worried about the strong high frequencies (peakiness) of the DT880 causing discomfort with bright sounding Electronic music, but I was pleasantly surprised by how little harshness I encountered. The bottom and top sound heaviness to the DT880 gives it a rather bland and uninvolving mid and vocal section with not enough mid bass to my ears. There is a real crispness to the sound and a wonderful clarity to the detail that really brought music to life for me. Another easy solution is to use a headphone extension cord, which doubles as a security measure to avoid damaging the cable in case of a snag. Bass- DEEP and TIGHT, I do recommend you eq a little sub bass into the Dt 880 to enjoy Dub Step, as it helps bring a little more aggression and fun into the bass.
