About this deal

This may not have been the decision you might have made, but to me, I didn’t feel comfortable supporting Jay Kristoff and effectively promoting his work to help him sell more. From the very first page recap and description of the characters you get a glimpse of the humour and one liners you are going to see throughout the book. While hunting a vampire plaguing nearby villages, Gabe discovers his bloodgift is sanguimancy (blood magic), meaning his father was of the fifth, presumed extinct, vampire bloodline (Esani).

Witnessing the character’s brotherhood, love, and desperate struggles in the dark and merciless world, one step at a time, was utterly rewarding. I mentioned at the beginning of this review that I experienced both hell and heaven reading this book. While travelling he meets the Company of the Grail led by Chloe Sauvage, who has found a young urchin named Dior Lanchance who is the Holy Grail; as a direct descendant of the Redeemer, her blood can destroy vampires and heal injuries. Perhaps it was down to the use of cliché though Jay Kristoff certainly had me fooled here for a second. And then, he decided to use three words for every situation and sentence, no matter how random and awkward they’re placed. Jay Kristoff skillfully weaves the journeys of our reluctant hero and the chosen one with themes of found family, family drama, morally grey heroes, and sometimes redeemed villains. Especially when a character has done absolutely nothing to suggest they’re a bad person or done something to wrong Gabriel. Lingering mysteries set up in book one are wrapped up quite nicely as the vampire apocalypse threat is looming, and our main characters are all fighting to find a way to save the world. He's still getting a ton of love, but if you are a huge fan of EotV's female characters, this book will delight you.

The book was near falling to pieces, but the lettering was still visible, faint and faded, oui, but still there. He is the winner of eight Aurealis Awards, an ABIA, has over two million books in print, and is published in over thirty-five countries, most of which he has never visited.

The slow drip of worldbuilding and mystery reveals are a huge reason why this series stands so strong.
