About this deal

I agree with a friend of mine who said the ending can also be read as a tale of trade-offs and concession. He tries time and again to find a home, but the fact he was born as a witch's cat always follows him and spoils his chances. He tries to be a normal kitchen cat, first at a farm, then an orphanage, then the mayor's house, but his magic always gets him into trouble.

A great deal of the dramatic tension of the book filters through "unfairness" which particularly resonates in a 7 year old's heart and perhaps as second-borns we could both relate to the idea of being the one who can't conform to the dominant family paradigm.

He will find some people to live with, and all goes well, until they discover he is a witch's cat and will chase him out and on to the next chapter where the exact same thing will happen with some new people. Whether this is because the author's skill improved in the four years between the two books or because cats are easier to anthropomorphize than wooden toys, is a matter for debate. He escapes to look for a kitchen home but is distrusted everywhere he goes and blamed for mysterious happenings, such as the farmer's milk turning sour and the orphanage children's gruel turning into chocolate.

He wants to be a kitchen cat, and yet he goes through town after town without actively looking for a kitchen that wants a cat. Gobbolino, a witch's feline endowed with unusual powers, is a charming little kitten who faces an identity crisis. I bought this book so that I could read it to my children, and hope that they would love it as much as I did as a child. This celebratory anniversary edition features a forward from Harriet Muncaster, creator of the Isadora moon series.

The world Gobbolino ventured into was not ready to accept him as who he was; in that world, he could either be a witch's cat, or a kitchen cat, not something in between. Romanul acesta nu e doar despre un pisoi amărât, ci e și un pretext de a vorbi despre fiecare copil sau chiar adult care încearcă să se integreze undeva și să se facă plăcut. She said she enjoyed the book but it's not one that I enjoyed all that much, the repetitive format began to pall a bit. Alungat însă, pentru că nu seamănă cu ceilalți (are o lăbuță albă), tânjește după un cămin fericit, după mângâieri și compania oamenilor. Una however loved it and summed up the plot to Martin "It's about a cat and he just wants to be a kitchen cat but it isn't fair because nobody understands him.Blessed with some magic, Gobbolino is able to use this to his advantage at times, but superstition follows him wherever he goes. There are 20 titles to collect in the series, listed below, all with exciting new covers and fun-filled endnotes. My feeling of dissatisfaction is probably more with the similarity between Gobbolino's world and the actual world we all live in, rather than the story that pointed to the similarity. Along the way, his magic and kindness brought happiness to many, yet his own happiness never really lasted. After her husband's death in 1974, Ursula Moray Williams remained active, writing, gardening, giving talks and visiting her family in various parts of the world.
