About this deal

We take intellectual property concerns very seriously, but many of these problems can be resolved directly by the parties involved. Helmut Newton (Australian/German, 1920–2004) Australian/German 1920 2004 Title: Big Nudes (5 works) , 1993 Medium: gelatin silver prints Size: 46. They'd commissioned me to take these four girls from Paris and do a series of photographs over a day. While such unusual pictures both astonished and provoked the scene, above all, they revolutionized fashion photography.

Shortly before his death at age 83, Newton collaborated with documentary filmmaker Gero von Boehm on this humorous and revealing biographical profile. Humorous photographs recast Helmut Newton's 'Big Nudes' (1980–9) series of semi-clad fashion models with fleshy pink pigs and MRI scans of Shin's brain. He was the seminal image-maker of his generation and while his style is often imitated, it is never equalled. His second publication Sleepless Nights also features mannequins that are mostly in amorous combination with a person. Helmut said "I like photographing the people I love, the people I admire, the famous, and especially the infamous" — and he certainly did.His portraits of the beautiful, the rich, the famous and infamous have amplified his ever-so-real fantasy world. There are many picture-pairs of the models fully clothed on the left-hand page and unclothed on the right, in the same pose. A burly man, with bushy hair and a pair of spectacles with frames so dark and elaborate that they resemble welder's goggles, Newton is not what you expect from a venerable – and venerated – European maestro who will be 82 next month. Three further images were added in 1991 and a final series was executed in 1993 bringing the total sequence to XXI. He was known as the creative director of the French luxury fashion house Chanel (from 1983 until his death), as well as creative director of the Italian fur and leather goods fashion house Fendi and his own eponymous fashion label. Participants in the Arclight Productions film include the “Three Boys from Pasadena” — Mark Arbeit, George Holz and Just Loomis — who were students at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, when they first met Newton in 1979 and served as Newton’s assistants during one of his most prolific periods, each becoming successful photographers in their own right.Depicting his models as strong and powerful women, Newton reversed gender stereotypes and examined society's understanding of female desire. The 'Sie Kommen (They Are Coming)' diptych (below) appeared in Vogue Paris in 1981, and alongside the Big Nudes, are some of the few Newton images shot in a studio. After much travelling, Helmut arrived in Australia, settled in Melbourne and married a local photographer, June, who works under the nom de guerre of "Alice Springs".

Newton's modus operandi involved the reconstruction in heightened, concentrated pictorial form of details, gestures and scenarios that he had observed in life. While this remained his primary means of connecting with his audience, from around 1980 demand from collectors for his work increased and Newton started to number his prints in editions. Soon, we are back among the foxy babes, looking at a blank-faced young waitress holding a tray of green cocktails, clad in a tiny white apron. Describes a book or dust jacket that does show some signs of wear on either the binding, dust jacket or pages. For Helmut Newton book and magazines, will play a particularly important role throughout his photographic career.Newton worked closely with designers and labels from YSL to Chanel, and his images have become vital parts of the heritage of these brands as well as fashion history. With this series, the artist gives the models an erotic and feminine charge that shows women who are strong, determined, and proud of their femininity. A whole room is devoted to little Polaroid snaps, never seen before, taken in the Seventies and Eighties. Known for the precise glamour of his photographs as well as the striking, often controversial scenarios he chooses for his models. He is a fashion designer and was a long-time friend of Helmut Newton's who often made portraits of him.
