About this deal

The melting point of lead is 621 °F (327 °C), so you’ll need a powerful yet safe heat source to do the job. If you get something other than the Lyman in a bottom pour, be sure to get a Lyman ladle, the Lees are a poor excuse for a lead ladle. If you can find someone in the large group of friends you have in the cast bullet world that will part with one of the older RCBS pots, they are worth the extra money. I haven't cast with a dipper in thirty or forty years and don't intend to go back to one so would like something with a hole in the bottom. Our range of Lee melting pots includes bottom-pour pots and standard lead melting pots for use with ladles.

I have no idea how real the threat is, but my pot came with a warning not to leave lead in it because apparently air bubbles can somehow form when the lead is cooling and when heating back up can expand and splatter lead in a very rude manner. One winter evening we were making sinkers and a neighbor brought over a couple hundred pounds of wheel weights. I can be casting in 10 minutes if I'm in a hurry, and I can make the swap from soft to hard alloy without having to empty the pot. EASY TO USE - Designed to be easy to use, the Hot Pot 2 is great for both full-scale production and hobbyists. If you’re using an aluminum muffin pan, turn the pan over and tap it against a solid surface to free the lead ingots. This compensates for any material lost due to impurities, or from lead getting stuck to your container or tools. With being blacklisted from all ad networks like Adsense or should I say Ad NOSense due to our pro 2nd Amendment stance and topic of this commmunity we rely 100% on Supporting Memberships to fund our efforts. The product is from DEWEY, known for quality cleaning rods, and the handle dimensions are 1-1/8" dia. Just make a couple pours to heat the mold till the pours come out good then keep right on pouring till your more than done with extra bare jig hooks. After skimmuing I dip lead from the 12" frying pan with the ladle to cast the "clean" lead into one pound ingots. Use a wet-dry vacuum fitted with a HEPA filter to suck up any lead dust that has accumulated on your tools or workspace.

I'd be using Hornady, Lyman, or one of those Super, High Dollar, single stage presses with sub micron adjustments. It is the impurities and dirt, that must be cleaned from wheel weights, that plug the spout on bottom pour pots. Molten lead can cause water droplets to vaporize instantly, potentially spraying the molten lead all over you.I find putting a screw driver in the slot at the top of the stopper and spinning back and forth with a bit of pressure normally stops it. This tutorial answers these questions, providing you with step-by-step instructions and valuable safety tips to keep in mind when working with molten metal.
