About this deal

Maybe it was just the way I was reading it but it almost felt like it was veering into gothic horror territory at times, with the Groke stalking Moomintroll, the island seeming to come alive around the family and the weather seemingly consciously acting against them.

Moominpappa at Sea is just one example of Tove Jansson’s many works that reflect a deep respect for the sea, the seasons and nature. Moominpappa becomes dissatisfied with his life in Moominvalley, so he organizes a journey for his family to find a lighthouse in the sea.I've read all Moomin books multiple times but Moominpappa at Sea remains my personal favourite and I can't even begin to tell you how happy I was to finally get my own copy which I was desperately trying to get hold of for years.

As you might have guessed, I've never been one to feel children's books couldn't be enjoyed outside their intended demographic.Men jag saknar ändå äventyrligheten och det fridfulla som får ta större plats i de andra Mumin-böckerna. Almost fifty years after first reading this book, I am bowled over by how well Jansson captures both the midlife crisis and depression and therefore amazed that the book, despite such adult themes, still spoke to me all those years ago.

And then the whole series got rereleased this year for the 100th anniversary of Tove Jansson's birth.

Littly My mainly disappeared and reappeared, strolled and adventured around on her own through the whole book, knowing a lot more than any other person on the island, on the story.
