About this deal

Oct 26, 2016 - Check out these awesome Star Wars Battlefront dogfights shared by you, the IGN community! You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. It's not the greatest, nor the deepest, fighting game around, but it is gleefully gory fun for long stretches.

As far as feature-complete packages go, Mortal Kombat XL is among the best examples of a plentiful bounty of playing options.

is that, someday, NetherRealm Studios will produce a grand-slam, go-for-broke, all-star spectacle featuring a ton of Horror Movie icons - Freddy Krueger, Chucky, Michael Myers, 'Ash' from Evil Dead. I thought it was great, sure you'll still have your preferences but at least you'll have that option to experiment with the same character, see what works best for you. The roster for this game is varied with fan favourites as well as an abundance of new and interesting kombatants. and it just makes sense to me that Pinhead from Hellraiser would appear in this game too, as some sort of super-powerful, end-of-level Boss!

The cutscenes are well detailed and, if you execute the right button press sequences, you can determine what the outcome will be. It’s one thing getting extra campaigns via DLC but when it is just characters and skins, it all feels a bit of a rip off to me. Last year’s entry into the Mortal Kombat series missed our review team at the time but I picked it up a little while after it came out and it was a real surprise. It may not be as vigourously tweaked for balance like other games but equally we’re not expecting to see five different versions of it. There are also some well known horror and, sci-fi characters such as, the Predator, a xenomorph from aliens.

Set on a strictly 2D plane but with fully 3D graphics (a’la Street Fighter 4), the gameplay feels like classic Mortal Kombat fare. Each character has different ending on the main tower, and beating your previous records are what make you come back to try the endless tower. Mortal Kombat XL is the definitive version of one of the best fighting games of this generation and is well worth a look. It’ll last you a while (longevity can be an issue with fighting games) at least until you’ve seen and done everything and it is straight up a lot of fun. Summary Includes main game, and new playable characters Alien, Leatherface, Triborg, and Bo'Rai Cho.

If you're looking for more of a casual fighter, this is definitely for you, a game that doesn't require tournament reflexes to pull off a satisfying victory but still challenging enough to keep your interest. Triborg – actually four characters in one, Triborg’s three selectable styles (and a fourth hidden behind a quick button combo) are individual characters based on the robot ninjas from the series.CINEMATIC STORY MODE: Step into a brand-new story mode that pushes Mortal Kombat 25 years into the future. My only gripe with it is the lack of stage variety, some stages look similar where they could have been a little more creative but that's the nitty gritty. When compared to the embarrassingly anaemic Street Fighter V, seeing a game that is so absolutely stuffed with content is great. In all honestly, I hadn’t really liked any Mortal Kombat since Trilogy on the PS1 and the original 2D titles had really dated (as evidenced by playing Mortal Kombat Kollection on Xbox Live Arcade a few years back). Aside from all the early DLC content (with characters like Goro, Jason Vorhees and Predator), you also get the second season pass pack which adds some very interesting characters.
