The characters are well written and the interplay feels genuine on the whole (wasn't sure about the Hugo subplot as he was so vile! It kept me very entertained and I whizzed through it so it gets a good rating, but would I recommend it? At times there were parts which felt overly dramatised but I’m not sure if that’s the writing or the narrators interpretation.

I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. I like the fact that some of the characters - notably Andee (and Jay) - recur from previous novels - it makes the network of connections feel authentic. I do like when unsuspecting secrets are revealed after someones death, can't say I liked what it was in this particular circumstance though. Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not! No - one saw it coming, but the protest movement is a reality that now has to be dealt with - especially as this is election year in Brazil, and some will be looking to turn dissatisfaction with the World Cup into votes.
After the reasoning behind Hanna and Jack's daughter, Cait, being a bratty adult child is revealed I liked her progression into a more mature adult. The pacing is steady and everything builds to an exciting conclusion in this tale of family relationships. I really didn't get involved in the storyline until the second half, and then I really did become involved.The majority of the story revolves around Hanna, with occasional interspersions from an unknown character who seems to know an awful lot about Hanna and her family.
