About this deal

Wikia has been around since 2004 promoting fandoms by allowing the fans to dictate just how their fandom should look, sound and feel. A personal interest for me is characterization in media and how women in particular have been portrayed, are being portrayed, and will be portrayed in the future. Just two boys trying to figure out how love works and what its is like to try to be truly with someone. I’m a video game lover from the womb to the tomb, and Bioware enthusiast until the day they stop making games with amazing characters that I cry over.

First, I have to say that one of the tropes I’m eternally grateful creator Asumiko Nakamura didn’t abide by was the power structure of the seme/uke relationship, in which the seme is the more dominant, masculine one (and often just straight up sexually assaults his partner), and the uke is the more feminine, submissive one who cries a whole bunch and blushes. Mangaka Asumiko Nakamura's other works will also be allowed expression as part of the Doukyusei-Classmates world. I was honestly so worried about this during a scene when Hikaru’s band was playing their last show and a girl’s friend was trying to build her up to confess to Hikaru. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. These teen boys are endearingly awkward as they figure out what they feel for each other and how to approach this relationship. It's a very light manga, and while there is the occasional teasing of deeper psychological issues, it's mainly fluff and the perils of growing up and figuring out what you want to do that the manga focuses on.

BUT: The mangakas herself stated it was her first BL, so she didn't mind if she used overused and cliche plots. While the plot of Doukyuusei is not groundbreaking, somehow the exact feeling of a fleeting childhood crush is perfectly captured by Nakamura.

Maybe a certain feeling, maybe a specific memory from your childhood or a sensation that you like in your current day to day life. If you're only planning to read this manga so you can watch the movie afterwards, I recommend skipping the manga and dive right into the movie. As I mentioned before, it doesn't have any themes of molestation or abuse between Sajou and Kusakabe, and it is definitely a fresh, welcome addition to the genre. However, this manga is full of cliches, yet it's drawn in such a way that it's captivating; it's pure and innocent, which I simply love about it. As this is actually a happy story, though, the two of them do decide that they want to spend more time together, and the rest of the film takes a closer look into that as they go into their third year of high school.

In this lovely, pure and poetic manga Asumiko Nakamura perfectly depicts young love and its everyday special moments. However, this manga in particular made me feel something I haven't felt in a long time, and when one feels so passionate about something, whatever that something may be, they feel the need to share it. there is no villains, no sexual assault, and no weird love tringles that make a story have all this drama added into the story. Instead of the stereotypical sensationalized yaoi that comes to most of our minds when thinking about the genre, Doukyuusei is normalized, and that’s what I like about it most of all.Follow their journey from 2nd-years into young adulthood via the manga or just revel in the beautiful rendering that is "Sincerely, Slowly, Falling in Love," the anime film that is gaining new fans every day. I would highly recommend this volume to someone who is interested in sweet BL with a slice of life flavor and a high school backdrop, but please brace yourself for the aforementioned sexual harassment of a minor. But opposites attract and before they know it, they've embarked on a journey neither one can quite define but which anyone with eyes can see is "Love. Luckily, the girl was never villainized for being attracted to Hikaru, or for asking to friend him on social media, and instead it was used as a point for Hikaru and Rihito to discuss some of the boundaries of their relationship and their jealousy.
